It is such a big high school sport here, and there have been a couple of generations of soccer (American term) already. Many other countries only started playing women's football recently.
Of course, many countries still don't let women go to the bathroom without asking, so it may be a while until Iran shocks us in the Women's world cup.

Well compared to other countries, the US soccer puts a lot of money into the women's program. There are great youth programs connected with US soccer which puts the better players in the spotlight to be discovered. Other countries really don't have a well developed women's youth program. So basically, if you're really good, you may not be discovered. However, in the US, you know you're getting the best in the country at that age level. That's why we dominate most teams. However, in the past 8 years, Europeans teams have definately bridged the gap!

Funding and support. Hands down!
Those things have grown over the years though. In the beginning the United States women were doing their own laundry and sewing on their own US flag patches. They also got barely $10 a day for food money. When they came home from winning the first-ever World Cup in 1991 (in China) - there were only a handful of news media at the airport to greet them. In contrast, at the 1999 World Cup, held in the Us, there were nearly 600 press credentials issued.
Perserverence has a way of coming through, and the US Women definitely deserve what they've earned throughout the years!

It comes down to fitness. The USA women train more than any other team in the world even in non-World Cup years simply so they can have depth in their lineup like no other country can. They also train in climates that allow them to be prepared for any type of weather or field condition so none of those conditions can throw off their game. As well the team has amazing team chemistry. It takes a lot of practice to be able to completely change up a lineup and still have the same poise and finesse that the USA women do no matter who is on the field and no matter the field formation. The USA women simply are better prepared than any other nation...however it is easy to tell in this world cup that some teams are starting to realize this and are beginning to take their own steps towards challenging to the USA women for the top spot.

Simple, there really is no professional equivalent in this country.
Being on the National team is the pinnacle.
There is no money to be made in the woman's game in the U.S. If there was, the best players would be spread out amongst those teams and we wouldn't have the great team that we have today.

Because it has always been a girl's sport in the US. I played it in school and I was quite good, I might add......
The reason why you don't hear about THAT is because American Football and Baseball are "men's sports" and therefore they are always on the telly and women's sports aren't.
Sad but unfortunately true.

I am from Italy and in Europe, believe it or not, women playing "soccer" is not out of the question but is still a sport for women that needs to be "educated" to people.
