No pain, or aches. I'm 22 and have all four wisdom teeth. Two on top are far to reach (to clean) but I'm not ripping em out for nothing. I hate going through all that pain. So dentist recommends I get the bottom two out since they are pointed right at the ROOTS of my last teeth (on both sides). Like I said, no pains or aches, but she said they'd have to break some bone to get in there and dig it out? I'm so scared...is there any chance of them not moving from their position in the future, so I don't have to get them taken out? Or do most wisdom teeth shift positons? What is your opinion on this?

I had 2 teeth pulled on top and two on bottom pulled for braces when I was 17. It was pulled in the middle of my teethes, not from the ends, so i had a space and the braces were used to "pull" together the space left from the extraction into one row of teeth.

Anyway Im nt worried about the top ones, more worried about the bottom ones, they dont show on the outside, just gums, but in the xray they r pointed towards the roots.

btw braces caused my enamel hypoplasia apparently since i had those teeth removed, dentist says ZOOM whitening will blend in the white spots a lot better, is tht true. Plus i have 3 new cavities not filled yet. dentist wants to whiten bfore filling cavities. but i read on the zoom whitening consent form that if the hydrogen peroxide gel gets into any open cavities (no idea what open cavity means) it will cause substantial pain, what do u think?

Why remove a wisdom tooth?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/1349509551/ shows one reason. This is what can happen by the time you are 40 or 50 if you leave a wisdom tooth in place when it is impacted. The red arrows on the x-ray show the grey area that has decayed due to the wisdom tooth being present under the gum. The tooth shown is the exact same tooth shown in the x-ray, but turned so you can see the cavity. Food and bacteria can get down there and you can't clean it out. Eventually, it makes a cavity in the tooth next to the wisdom tooth and makes it so you have to have BOTH teeth removed.

I'm wondering why your dentist didn't recc. to have your wisdom teeth extracted when you where 17. Prior to sending you to an orthodontist I'm sure he/she took x-rays of your teeth.( usually 3rd molars or wisdom teeth start erupting at17-22yrs old) Didn't she noticed your wisdom teeth growing in side ways (perpendicular) to your second molar? The chances of your wisdom tooth shifting position is very slim since it's pushing against the root of your other molar. It's ashame that you've gone through braces and may face alignment issues. It's possible your bottom two wisdom teeth can start pushing your teeth together and cause crowding in the future.
I came across another one of your questions regarding whitening. I don't trust your dentist base on some of the things she'd said to you. My opinion is for you to get a 2nd opinion.

I had the same thing with my teeth, they were called impacted wisdom teeth. Eventaully I had them removed because I couldn't clean them well enough and they started to hurt. They had to chip away the bone with mine too, but I was knocked out for the whole thing and felt nothing. It's a lot easier now that I don't have to worry about them.

My motto has always been 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I was a dental assistant. Many people have their wisdom teeth into their old age. I would suggest leaving well enough alone. You can always have periodic x-rays to determine what is going on, if anything. These teeth will most likely never shift.........there is most likely nowhere for them to go !! Also, be wary of dentists who love to make money doing things that are not necessary.......sorry to say this, but I know what I am talking about. BEST WISHES to you. One is also entitled to a second opinion !!!

Your wisdom teeth are impacted. Where they are sideways and facing the other teeth. Mine were too, and they had to cut them out and put stitches in. My daughter didn't have hers out, they are impacted also. She can't afford it and neither can I! Her impacted widsom teeth are pushing against her other bottom teeth causing overcrowding in front. Yours can do that if you let them go. I would advise to get them out and then you don't have to worry about them. They will shift, believe me and you would rather not ruin your other good teeth for 2 wisdom teeth which shouldn't be in there in the first place.

They can push your other teeth forward, causing your teeth to be crooked. At your age the problem should have presented itself by now though.
