I am not from Canada but have heard about the couple signing papers during the ceremony.....what all do these papers consist of... what do they say?

Marriage license...that's the offical document that goes to the courts that actually makes you married.

In reality the ceremony is just for show. You could do it in your dining room and just sign the papers without any vows as long as you had the officant to put his signature and the two witnesses.

It is the marriage license, which you have to have before you get married (at least in the US.) The person performing the ceremony has to sign the marriage license, and sometimes the couple or witnesses have to sign as well. Hope that helps!

That would be the marriage license or certficate, which are the legal papers that state you are legally married.

In some countries this is part of the ceremony. IN the US this is typically done prior to the ceremony.
