Three basic ways in peacetime: (1) attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, (2) attend college and complete an ROTC (reserve officer's training corps) program, (3) enlist, apply for, and attend Officer Candidate School.
A few "professionals" can get also direct commission from civilian life (e.g. doctors, lawyers, dentists, nurses).

To be an commissioned officer in the Army you need 80 credit hours and before you make Captain you have to have a four year degree. To be a warrant officer you have the be enlisted first, and submit a warrant packet. Once picked up for a warrant officer, you will go to Ft. Rucker for warrant school then to various other post depending on what branch you go into.

You need some college and the ability to sit in front of a review board and explain questions that pertain to leadership, past experiences, etc... You also have to be able to pass a medical physical, a physical fitness test, and make it through boot camp, OCS, and other training. None of the above is easy. Speak to a recruiter, but chances are if you have no prior experience the recruiter will attempt to to get you to enlist first. If OCS is what you want, stand by your intentions and don't let them change your mind.
