It is possible, but it doesn't happen very often. They say that menstruation happens anywhere from age 8 - 15, with the average being 12 or 13. So yeah, it can happen. Just explain to her what is happening and that she did start a little young.

yes, its not very common but its certainly not impossible to start at eight years old. if the child seems to be developing faster in many ways, such as taller than her classmates, breasts, maybe pubic and underarm hair then i would say its normal and just for her to get along with it. If however, she hasnt developed in any other ways and isnt bigger than average for her age, i would suggest to get checked out by a doctor. If you think she's mentally too immature to deal with it, its possible to get a medicine to delay it until she's 12 or 13, for instance, or at least till the rest of her body catches up. go see her gp for more advice. its not anything major to worry about though, but just check incase.

YES, I started my period at 9, it's horrible going through elementary and you being one of the only ones with a period every month. I hated it that I started soo young. I was told that I'll also have a sooner menopause and should have children at early age... well I'm 27 and no children yet. oh well.

yes, some girls start earlier than that but its very rare. They were talking about it on T.V. how this five year old girl started hers at a young age and they were talking about sometimes the body hormones change before it should, i don't remember exactly what they were talking about. But any way the five year old girl was being molested and she became pregnant, and it was really sad but yea you can be 8 and start your period.

Yes. The whole menstruation thing happens according to a girls enviornment, meaning if she is being allowed to act more grown up than she should, this happens earlier. Also, it generally will happen for a girl at or about the same time it happned to her mother... Watch your girls carefully and keep all activities, tv, movies, music AGE APPROPRIATE. it matters. Its about the brain. it soaks up any/everything around us at all times even when we are asleep, or not paying attention.

Like everyone else said, yes.
But it's not exactly normal for an 8-year old third grader to start having their period, even though it's not uncommon. Really, periods shouldn't start until the tween years, as in middle school age or early in high school. Here's the reason why:
-Food. Hormones to promote growth in livestock that messes with the endocrine and also pesticides that mimic estrogen.
-Obesity, overconsumption of food leads to obesity which speeds up aging.
-Environmental pollution, also known to speed up aging. And chemical compounds in the system that messes up the biological clock.
-Media. Some speculate an oversexualized culture and media has that effect.
-Stress. Too stressful society and too much demands.
-Nutrition. This is probably the ONLY good aspect that lead to something not so good as a evolutionary cause. Improved nutrition and health, body able to fluorish more easily.
I really hate this whole messing with nature thing. If this keeps up, eventually there won't be such a thing called childhood. Children get born immediately as teenagers-isn't that scary? Both in freak-of-nature sense and having to put up with a precocious teenager for 10 more years?
The only way to delay the period naturally, is to have your daughters eat only organic food, reduce toxin and pollution exposure as much as possible, and keep her at a healthy weight and stress free.

Its possible. I have heard of and even had a friend when I was younger who started her period when she was 8.
many scientists and pediatricians believe that it has a lot to do with the high rate or processed food that contain preservatives and fillers.

Yes, but it's unusual. If it's happened to you, get your parent/guardian to take you to the doctor just to check that it isn't a symptom of some problem. But almost certainly you're just on the young end of normal.

Yes, its also not unheard of to be even younger than 8! All just depends on the body and hormones of that individual.
