When over 5000 supporting Greek manuscripts of the New Testament have been discovered and, when examined, show us that they are all copied with extreme accuracy. The New Testament alone is over 99% textually pure. In addition, another 20,000 manuscripts in other languages also have been discovered. All these manuscripts range from the second century to after the turn of the first millennium. They all demonstrate an amazing accuracy and consistency within the copies?

Consistancy of copying doesn't mean truth. The new testament was written third hand. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John didn't wirte anything themselves, but they told lots of people things and those people were the ones who actually wrote things down, almost 100 years after the time of Jesus. And the lack of consistancy between the four books themselves indicates that a lot of the information might be inaccurate.

The question of accuracy of copying is secondary when authenticity itself is being questioned.

There is a number of contradictions of facts and figures; and then it is unthinkable that Jesus, prophets and apostles would use invectives contrary to ethical behavior; and then the liberal mention of the acts of incest, rapes, adultery and whoring and ascribing some of these to the prophets/apostles is not believable; and then God too is mentioned behaving in a crude manner not befitting a gentleman; and the mention of strangely deformed animals and a donkey talking, etc. all these make the Bible a suspect only to be believed by those who have not read the holy books of other faiths to compare and appreciate their dignified style and image.

There are predictions which proved untrue and all information pertaining to scientific proved false.

God uses the simple to confound the wise.
Education can get in the way of simplicity.
You are correct in what you say. Also, if it were made up, there would have been witnesses to refute the accuracy of the early manuscripts, so we wouldn't have had them if false. And the later gospels, people would have been alive, or would have know those who were alive when it happened. I believe the Bible is the most accurate of all books, period.

Yes, that is one of the many misconceptions about the actual text of the Bible. It is almost as popular as the misconceptions that there are many different versions of the Bible, that books were removed from the Bible, and that the Council of Nicea decided what was going to be included in the Bible.

I think it's funny how many people completely misunderstood your question, and then actually tried to insult *your* intelligence.

I think it is because they can spot the flaw in an argument. Just like they can spot the flaw in yours.

You are supposing that original "accurate" documents contain irrefutable truth. Some people, me included, do not see any of these truths and require acceptable evidence of the existence of a god (any god) that can be tested. Accurate copies of nonsense, even hundreds of years later, are still not proof of a god.

You may have a brain, but I am afraid that you are not using it.

Because all these texts you quote are copied from each other. The bible is not accurate because there are no texts dating from the time at which all the events are supposed to have occurred. Could you write a history of Henry VIII from what you have heard people say about him? How accurate do you think it would be?

So just because a bunch of people wrote and rewrote the same stuff we're all supposed to believe it?

Okay guys.. let's test this theory. I am going to write a book tonight, and then I'll send it to all of you to copy. Then you forward it to 20 of your friends to copy. In a few years, it should be considered divinely inspired truth!

edit> But you're trying to say that just because it was written and not mistranslated through the years, that we should consider the words to be true. Why?

edit2> Sure, Laura :o) Anything we want! The more outlandish and condradictory, the better! That seems to be what gains the most followers.

Intelligence and education have nothing to do with it. There are many people who have no education and who have a low IQ who still understand God's plan of salvation, even though they may not be able to read the Bible. They can still hear the Word of God if someone will read it to them.

The answer directly above is not quite accurate, it rained for forty days days and forty nights, but ark floated for one hundred and fifty more days after the rain stopped. The largest wooden sailing vessel ever made was less than four hundred feet long, the ark was four hundred and fifty feet long. Rather hard to belive, don't you think? Accurately copying fiction does not make it true.
