When the gospels, for example, were written by those who either knew Jesus personally, or were under the direction of those who did. The gospels are full of factual accounts of cities, customs, terms, locations, etc., that can all be verified historically and archaeologically?

Some say that because they want it to be true ....and saying it over and over again seems to make it almost true.

The first gospels were written over thirty years after Jesus' s departure, the last 60 or 70 years afterward. The contents indicate a knowledge of place names but not actual geography. When one maps Jesus' itinerary, it zig-zags all over the place. Some may excuse this by saying they were not written in chronological order, but this doesn't help validate the authenticity of the gospels. Today, few would dream of writing a book about a real region without exploring it themselves first. And the book could still be a novel.

The gospels were written long after the death of Jesus. The 4 gospels can't even agree on basic facts and figures. As for the rest of the bible, it is an amalgam of Egyptian and Babylonia myths, tied in with Jewish law and an attempt at a history. There is very little historical accuracy through the entire book, both new and old testaments.

Do you fairly prefer to take a risk that the Bible is a fairy thoughts? If there is one risk in one million that the Bible is authentic and hell is a real place, why might you want to take that threat. Psalms 14: one million The fool hath stated in his coronary heart, there is not any God. they are corrupt, they have finished abominable works, there is none that doeth good. Psalms 19: one million The heavens declare the difference of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

i suggest you investigate the claim that the gospels were written by people who knew jesus personally or were under the direction of those who did, first off, because this is not true
secondly, not all of the bible is fairy tale and myth, or course it contains historical accounts, (so does the Illiad), only the magic parts (like people living inside of a whale, a worldwide flood, people walking on water) are myth

Spider Man comics take place in NYC and also use such things. Do you believe they are factual? Anyone could have written a fictional book that does so. Jesus most likely never existed. There actually is good evidence for other historical figuers, not Jesus:

Because it is.
You are incorrect on the authorship of the "gospels," btw. Not a single one is an eyewitness account, and all were written long after any possible eyewitnesses would have died of old age.
As for place names and personages, "Beowulf" has those too.
And no, Eartha, actually I'm NOT wrong . . . as any good study bible, or any biblical scholar, would tell you. I suggest you read something besides Chick tracts.

The fact that , for instance, there was a town of Nazareth 2000 years ago, and that it is still the same town today, does NOT prove that any of the following are indeed real or true: virgin birth, divinity of christ, resurrection, existence of god....
Your logic, like that of a lot of religious people, is dreadfully flawed,

The Iliad contains factual accounts of the cities, customs, terms, locations, etc. of ancient Greece. It's still a myth.

Because it is. Just one example... a talking snake with legs that convinced a woman to eat a fruit from a tree and caused the downfall of all mankind.
Doesn't that sound kind of stupid to you?
