Uh, girls don't wear pants? There could be an exception for the LPGA but where I come from girls don't wear pants.

I'd imagine the original dress code for LPGA golf tournaments was the same as with the pro tennis tour: Skirts only. Allowing women to wear shorts is probably a concession in the dress code since they're similar.
Tradition requires men to wear pants. There's no other reason.
Caddies on the PGA Tour can wear shorts because not too long ago several caddies had problems with the heat and the PGA decided to allow them to wear shorts to keep cool. It has NOTHING to do with 'class' or PGA players thinking they're 'better' than the caddies.

its all about tradition and looks. Men have always worn pants and shorts just dont look very good and arent classy. Imagine wearing shorts to an important business meeting, it just isnt right. As for the women, pants have never been mandatory, but the skirts have been getting shorter over the years.

The PGA as strict rule governing the wearing of shorts. It dates back to the early 1900's. The male golfers dressed in suits and the ladies in dresses. As time and the game progressed the suits went away and the profession look you have today. the LPGA goes on the same guideline for women. The main thing to look for is the shift in attire in the coming years.

I agree!- at least if they are playing in a 'men's' event. If they want to play on the 'men's' tour, then they should be subject to the same rules. Men could argue that it is unhealthy for their 'dangly bits' to be so constrained in the heat- they don't complain they just wear the long pants. It's part of the rules of the tour and the girls should be subject to it too!
The rules of the tour, whether it is dress or eligibility to play in the event, should be applied equally, whether one has the 'dangly bits' or not. And it should NOT be dependent on whether one has droopy or dangly bits.

Tradition is the only explanation. The bizarre thing is male caddies can wear shorts but not male players. I guess that can be ascribed to a class issue. No one is bothered by seeing manservant legs, but it would be a scandal if we saw the gentlemen's legs!

Guys have to wear pants as opposed to wearing a skirt? Women can wear skirts because that's what women wear.

So they don't get their clubs and balls mixed up. If someone plays the wrong ball it might require hospitalization. Besides females always look better without their pants on don't you agree?
