Find a little foot stool for him to prop his feet up on. It'll also be good to help him up and down from the "big potty."

Well, your first give away is the word "he". I do not know why, but little boys are harder to train when it comes to pooping. I see that the step stool idea has been repeated many times, and it is your best shot. If you have one, the kitchen size two step is the best because the second step is level with the toilet seat so his legs will stick straight out when he sits down.
Also, make him climb the two steps himself.
My son would not use the "baby" potty and was afraid of falling into the big potty. That might be the next excuse. We went to home depot and purchased a small piece of wood to cover the back end of the toilet seat to cover the majority of the hole and make it "smaller". Just remember, positive feedback even when at wits end. It took him two months to master going pee and a full year before I could remove the wood off the toilet.
Good Luck.

Place A Stool And The End Of the Toilet So His Feet Can Rest There!

I would try one of the potty chairs where his feet are automatically touching the ground. My son used to complain that he was uncomfortable on the toilet so it may be more than his feet dangling. Gradually move him up to the "big" boy potty. Then when you move him up let him have a step stool at his feet then eventually take that away. Children are so used to pooping standing up in a diaper if you think of it so this is just a different position for them and they need time to adjust. Good luck.

You can go to the baby department at wal-mart and get what they call 3in1 Potty N Step Stool. They only cost 9 dollars and some odd cents. It is a potty, stool, and a potty seat for a big toilet. Hope this helps.

Try putting something next to the stool so he can rest his feet on it. Like a small foot stool, a block of wood, a box, or anything that would be the right size for him to rest his feet on. Maybe he will feel more confident this way.

Involve a modified step ladder, chair, small bench, or what-have-you so that he can rest his feet. Even if that's not exactly your toddler's problem, you'll get that much closer to the real issue. GL! :)
