It's been ten years, but I do remember a lot of pain the first two or three days, not consistently but especially when I tried to eat....it also hurts a bit when they put new bands on, but nothing you won't be able to handle. Just take an ipod if you have one, because you'll be there awhile.

Hi, I'm 13 and i had braces put in on 21st September 2007. The procedure is basically pain-free and the only bit that hurt was when my ortho put in a rubber thing in that kept my lips out then way. A pipe with cold air is put into your mouth but not down your throat, all you have to do is bite it when your ortho tells you to. Its quite simple and only takes about 30 mins, the time seems to fly by.
My braces didnt hurt when they were put on but an hour after being done my teeth started to ache. That night i got about 4-5 hours sleep but i dont sleep well anyway so it all depends on you.
The next morning i felt something like a bubble on the inside of my cheek. I tried the wax but it doesnt seem to work on me,again its different for everyone. Im thinking of trying Chloraseptic spray for the inside of my mouth to numb the soreness but not sure if it will work yet.
Hope I could help x

It does not hurt that badly. They put these metal rings on your back teeth which is the most painful. Then they put the brackets on. Then they put the wire on top and put the end into the metal rings.
It mostly just takes a lot of time. It will hurt at first but only for a couple days. Then the only thing that will hurt will be when they tighten it which is once every month.

Yes they hurt, but not as bad as getting impactd wisdom teeth pulled.
Based on my own experience, at 17, I had 2 teeth from the top, and 2 teeth from the bottom removed, to make space to correct my teeth (to make the straight).
That was traumatic enough.
Then the braces go in and the first week you feel pressure (cause of the teeth shifting together), and PAIN. I could not sleep because it hurt so much, imagine metal device pulling your teeth in another direction.
Then after a week or so, it doesn't hurt anymore, and you will get some pain and still pressure (but not as bad as when yo first got them) everytime you go to get them tightened.
After the braces, come retainers, to "retain" the position your teeth have moved to. This isn't painful but more pressure, almost like a baby teething because your teeth want to shift, since the braces have been removed. I totally didn't wear my retainer because I hated that feeling, but you should because your teeth will shift and become crooked (not severely, but not up to dental standards).
Also braces may sometimes cause mild/moderate enamel hypoplasia (ugly white spotting on some (few or one) of your teeth in the process.
I developed this condition and also ended up with a short root in one of my teeth because I had 4 teeth extracted before braces (for the braces). So think short root= short root on a tree on a windy day, as opposed to a tree with strong roots...

No of course not. I had braces in 4-5 grade and then again in 6-7 grade; but that was only because I had tow phases. The only part that hurt was probably when they changed/tightened my bands; and when u eat. But it only hurts for a little while. Sorry this is as much as I remember since I am now in high school. Hope this helps.

I had mine taken out receantly. I'm not going to lie; they hurt! And not just that but food gets stuck in them (I always had to look in the mirror after eating salads) and your gums swell up and you get ulcers where the braces rub against your skin. Oh, and they make your bottom lip stick out a bit too.
But that was just in my experience; for some people they're not that bad. Plus, think of the end result. It's better to have a sore mouth for a couple of years than an ugly mouth forever, don't you think?

for me yes it did hurt badly for me But everycase is different. the procedure is they take each bracket and cement is on. THey only thing that hurt is when you get them on bc you are not used to having braces and the tighning. also each month you have to go and get them tightning. For the frist 2-3 times it might hurt. GOOD LUCK!!!

they don't hurt much, but they are a little sore when u get them. the procedures are vey quick, about 30 -60 mins. don't worry! they are cool to have and you know you will have a great smile if u take care of them!

they DO hurt everytime they are tightened....its constant pressure on your teeth, you WILL feel pain. also the wires will sometimes stick you in your mouth, you will need to get dental wax from your orthodontist to cover the pointy ends.
