I've very rarely encountered this problem, as in most instances, the salesmen are really over-eager to "get my business" and are pestering me as I'm just beginning to try to make a decision. However, in the few instances when I've been ready, with my mind made up on a purchase, when I was totally ignored, I simply left and found another store with the same merchandise and a price-matching guarantee. Their loss, if they can't be interested in making the sale!

First don't let the situation get out of control. You can speak to the person directly and with a smile say, "excuse me?" This person could be distracted with personal problems or any number of other issues. If that doesn't work find another sales person - in another department if necessary and complete your transaction. I find that dealing with these situations with poise and a smile, versus anger and accusations creates a better outcome all around.

It depends on the circumstances. Sometimes I'll start the conversation, if they're just being oblivious are involved in something like stocking shelves or whatever.
If they are ignoring me to have a conversation with a co-worker about what their dog ate for breakfast or something then I will typically look for a manager and ask them directly for assistance. I don't go looking to say "Hey, you've got people over here not doing their job", rather ask them directly for what you're looking for. Managers will either help you, get you help, and take care of the employee later.

Stumble, and 'accidentally' knock a display over. That should get her attention pretty quick. Make sure to throw in facetious "WHOOPS!". Then say something like "Sorry, I was trying to find someone to help me and wasn't watching where I was going. " This usually works pretty good, and providesd some mild entertainment while taking a pretty good stab at her karma as she will the be forced to clean up the mess. Don't be nice and offer to help, just say "Oh, never mind! GAWD!" and quickly leave the store.

Leave. Plain and simple. Or complain to a manager if the salesperson is being very obviously rude about it. However, I usually buy stuff without much help, so this has only happened a few times in my shopping experience. I suppose if you have questions about an item and no one will help you, then it's a perfect reason to leave the store.

Try getting their attention by waving at them. Yell at them if they still ignore you. If you still don't get a response, tell them they can stick whatever they are selling up their a**, and walk out the door with your head held high.
Also try taking a couple of dollars out of your pocket and waving them in front of the sales person. That's sure to get their attention.

Punch them in the face.
Just kidding.
What you do is go up to them, and if they're being rude, just hold in your anger. Then, when you're walking away, get a HUGE smile on your face and in a totally fake voice say "HAVE A GREAT DAY!"
It pisses people off when you're nice to them & they're trying to ignore you. :]

wow, that has happened to me, & i got sooo mad!
one time, a sales person was talking madly on her cell phone, & it was my daughter's birthday party the next day, so i was buying some decorations. i was in party city, & i shoved the balloons in the woman's hands, & she dropped her cell phone hard. i stomped out, & i hadn't noticed, but apparently other people were watching, so they started stomping out too!!! a few months later, i found out that that party city had closed, because the employees were very rude & no one went there!

I count my lucky stars! I hate being approached by sales "associates" who, even though they are only doing their job, annoy me with their interruption.
When I shop, I am concentrating and thinking and don't want to greet every stranger (salesperson) in sight.

When I know exactly what I want, I keep on getting the product/s which I want.
When I need assistance and am ignored, I leave.
