People often bring up Luke 16:19-31 as proof of receiving pain in Sheol/Hades - but the thing is, that scripture is a parable, which shouldn't be taken literal (Jesus only spoke in parables when he was around the crowds).
Ecclesiastes 9:5,10 in context.
5 For the living know that they will die,
*Yes the living know they will die, meaning they are conscious.
but the dead know nothing;
they have no further reward,
and even the memory of them is forgotten.
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
*It clearly states that dead are conscious of nothing in the Grave, which is Hades/and Sheol. So by reading this scripture, its obvious this is a place where no man will experience pain.
RIGHTEOUS AND UNRIGHTEOUS PEOPLE GOTO HADES/SHEOL
Job 14:13-15
13 "If only you would HIDE ME IN THE GRAVE (SHEOL/HADES)
and CONCEAL ME till your anger has passed!
If only you WOULD SET ME A TIME
and THEN REMEMBER ME!
14 If a man dies, will he live again?
All the days of my hard service
I WILL WAIT FOR MY RENEWAL TO COME.
15 You will call and I will answer you;
you will long for the creature your hands have made.
By reading Job, you will know Job was righteous man and he was expecting to goto Sheol/Hades if/when he died. Also
faithful men such as David did not goto Heaven.
Acts 2:34
34For David did not ascend to heaven
Since David did not goto Heaven, where do you think he went? Well the answer is found in this scripture...
John 3:13
No one has EVER gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.
*This scripture doesn't apply to all men, just the men prior to Jesus Christ going back into Heaven.

When Solomon says the dead know nothing and that there is no work, planning, knowledge, or wisdom after death, he is not contrasting life with afterlife, but life with death. After you die, you can't change what you have done. Resurrection to a new life after death was a vague concept for Old Testament believers. It was only made clear after Jesus rose from the dead.

These verses are speaking of death from a PHYSICAL PERSPECTIVE not spiritual. I could hit a dead person in the head with a football and get no reaction! No pain, no thoughts, and no experiences. When physically dead, you don't have clue what is going on and you can't experience anything. There is a second death which is spiritual. Spiritual death is an eternity being tormented in hell. This is where the wicked and unrepentant go.
So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 2 Cor. 5:6
We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Cor. 5:8
“There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar DIED, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also DIED and was buried. AND BEING IN TORMENTS IN HADES, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
“Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I AM TORMENTED IN THIS FLAME.’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; BUT NOW HE IS COMFORTED AND YOU ARE TORMENTED. And besides all this, between us and you there is a GREAT GULF FIXED, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’
“Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’” Luke 16:19-31
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this THE JUDGEMENT. Heb. 9:27
As Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, SUFFERING THE VENGEANCE OF ETERNAL FIRE. Jude 7
But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the ; LAKE WHICH BURNS WITH FIRE and brimstone, which is the SECOND DEATH.” REV. 21:8
If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I MAKE MY BED IN HELL, behold, You are there. Ps. 139:8
THEY ALSO WENT DOWN TO HELL WITH IT, with those slain by the sword; and those who were its strong arm dwelt in its shadows among the nations. Ez. 31:17
If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your WHOLE BODY TO BE CAST INTO HELL. Matt. 5:29
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your WHOLE BODY TO BE CAST INTO HELL. Matt. 5:30
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him WHO IS ABLE TO DESTROY BOTH SOUL AND BODY IN HELL. Matt. 10:28
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, YOU MAKE HIM TWICE AS MUCH A SON OF HELL AS YOURSELVES. Matt. 23:15 (Isn't that what the Watchtower does)
God can't lie. Titus 1:2
JR
The Scriptures are stacked against JW teaching. I don't see Jesus talking about hell figuratively here. I'd say that Jesus is giving clear warning! The first time we die it's physical. The second death (if we don't repent and worship the God of the Bible, which is Jesus, then we are damned to hell.) BTW how can you wait for renewal if you're sleeping forever?
The soul ceases to exist after death, Let God be True, p. 59, 60, 67.
There is no hell of fire where the wicked are punished, Let God be True, p. 79, 80.
Obviously the watchtower is lying and their publications prove it. You've been deceived and in turn are helping the WT spread lies.
