I don't think it's too young if you don't mind do all of the up keep for the puppy and being the actual owner untill she's old enough to care for it herself.

It'll be more like a little playmate for her instead of a responsibility. That part will have to fall on you.

We have six rescue dogs and my kids and I have been competing in dog agility for seven years. We also teach agility lessons to young people. I would NOT get a puppy for a two year old. Find a 2 year old or older dog that has been tested with kids and then make sure you spend the time teaching your daughter how to behave around a dog so she will be safe. Growing up with a puppy sounds all fun and stuff, but puppies can scare and hurt little kids to the point they neither of them want anything to do with the other.

personaly, i think it is a bad age for a puppy, but a kitten or a grown dog would probably be better and less messy, puppies are a lot of work remember but that doesn't mean anything, will she like a puppy? or will it bite her and they will not get along. she might have a thing for animals, take her to a friend who has a puppy and test it out, that will help alot to figure out
1. Will she and a puppy get along
2. What kind of puppy to get
also go see a shelter and look at how well behaved an animal is that u r thinking about getting that will also help but my favorite animal is a cat and they are great compaions. also, where do you live that will help with the decision too. a dog might not be happy with a smaller space. where as a cat can fit anywhere
i hoped i have helped

Yes, she's too young to have a puppy. If you do, you need to supervise when they're together. Sometimes, childrens' sudden actions may scare a dog. Although you see so many dog attacks on the newspaper, think about it, a dog does not attack without a reason. So, properly train both your daughter and the puppy. They will get along with each other.

no. I don't think so. As many have already said before. Really research the breeds to find a puppy that would be more mellow and less likely to get agitated by your daughter's behavior. Your daughter won't be able to do much to help with the puppy's care, but you can make it fun for her to help with the puppy like feeding, walking and teaching the puppy tricks. Just make sure that you have enough room for the puppy as well. Bigger dogs need bigger yards and more room to run. Good luck!

yes, i think SHE is 2 young 2 own a puppy HERSELF. But if u r the 1 taking care of the puppy, not her, then a puppy would be a GREAT idea. They will soon be best friends in no time, it can even protect her from danger :). i know people who have dogs that actually supervise the baby lol!

If you want a puppy get one but it is not going to be your daughters dog it will be yours.
At two she is no where near old enough to understand about dogs and ownership and she should never be left alone with a dog not only for her safety but for the dogs as well.
Children and dogs are not a great combination the kids need to be older and have a better understanding of everything and be walking and talking well so the dog will take direction from them.

personally i was born into a house that already had a puppy. I would not suggest getting a grown dog- puppy would be easiest= you can train the dog around your daughters needs- so that works out- i suggest a smaller dog to start off with- big dogs may be rough- and thats not good for a small girl - especially if you and her mom are intending on adding a new addition any time soon.
hope i can help...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Puppies are cute and cuddly...but they are A LOT of work...they are like have a new born baby all over again...they have to go out all the time....they need special attention....its very hard work...and you can't just leave them at home when you want to leave......I would wait until your daughter is about 7 or 8...then they can help with the feedings and walking and picking up poop etc....trust me..I am 22...just got a puppy and it is hard work......don't be fooled by their cute faces.....If you want a dog....go to a shelter and get an older one...like 1 or 2 years old...one that is potty trained etc....but just remember...you are going to be the one taking care of the pet.

Yes, 2 years old is too young for her to take responsibility for a puppy. After all she can't walk it or clean up it messes or train it. You will have to do all that yourself. You can have a puppy with your 2 year old no problem, but it would be YOUR puppy.

Depending on the breed I would try to get a smaller animal for her to play with. Most dogs are pretty patient with children and as long as you make sure to feed your dog AFTER feeding the child the dog will know his place in the pack is below hers. Dogs are pack animals and they need to know their place in the pecking order. They have no problem being at the bottom, as long as their needs are filled. What makes them crazy is when they don't know their position.

A dachusound or a bull dog (not a pit bull) or a terrier (beagles tend to bark a lot, but are great dogs) would be a great dog for her to play with and you to own.
