A Quid is a slang word for a pound, just as a fiver is a slang word for a £5 note, and "tenner" is slang for a £10 note.

the difference is the class of society one comes from dear boy a peasant would refer to a pound as a "quid" whereas one who uses the Queens very own English would use the correct team of "pound" I do hope this helps you in your quest to converse in the Queens English
