All most all Chinese believe in ancestor worship. Though most people say they have respect for their ancestors all over the world... the Chinese take it to the next level... offering food and burning paper objects that represents items along with "hell" money to be used in the after world. This is a form of belief of an afterlife and I consider it a religion.
Along with Ancestor worship, many Chinese may also practice a more conventional forms of religions such as Buddhism, Christian, and Muslim.
Some people see Taoism as a religion... as ancient as it is... to the Chinese its more of a way of looking at the world. Much of Chinese historic literature has Taoist influences. A book called; Sun Tzu Bing Fa — "The notes do not exceed five, but the changes of the five notes can never be fully heard. The colors do not exceed five but the changes of the five colors can never be completely seen. The flavors do not exceed five, but the changes of the five flavors can never be completely tasted. In warfare the strategic configurations of power (shi) do not exceed the unorthodox and orthodox, but the changes of the unorthodox and orthodox can never be completely exhausted. The unorthodox and orthodox mutually produce each other, just like an endless cycle. Who can exhaust them?" Another book famous in China — Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Gengeral Quan, is respected as a god and his image displayed on many ancestral alters. The Book Journey to the West, Monkey King a Buddhist story that is read to many children, even non-practicing Buddhist will read this story to there children. We see the image of Quan-yin Goddess of mercy also an image that is displayed on many ancestral alters in Chinese homes.
Confucianism is making a come back--though not completely a religion... Confucius does stress: "propriety, good manners, politeness, ceremony, worship." Xiào, "to honor one's parents," filial piety."--- From what I recall China has re initiated a drive to bring back Confucianism.
__________
As much as the cultural revolution tried to down play the religious aspects of the Chinese culture... 60 years is really unlikely to erase 2000 years of worship. The Chinese are far from being an "Atheist" culture. It is infact the opposite.
__________
The US has no official religion-- due to the separtion of religion and government. The Government has no right to dictate any religion to its citizens. As long as your religion does impose onto the freedoms of others — you can practice any religion you wish.

That's the problem, the USA isn't officially anything. They claim to be secular, having no official religion and having freedom of religion, while at the same time stuffing Christian beliefs and rules into legislation and discriminating people based on religion (or lack there of).
An atheist cannot become President of the USA, because a few states have it in their law that whoever runs those states must believe in a Supreme being (a.k.a. some god).
By putting "under one god" into various official places, they clearly favor religions that believe in "one god", as opposed to those who believe in many gods or none at all.
In certain states, a Pagan (for example) might be arrested for having anal sex with their lover because homosexual acts are considered a sin by Christians.
Many laws are based on Christian beliefs, which limits the liberty of those who don't believe the same.
If the USA were truly secular, they wouldn't discriminate based on religion, they wouldn't favor one religion over another and they'd keep religion out of the legislation.
Right now, what the USA claim to be is not what they really are.

Technically the US dosent have an official religon, because we are guarenteed the seperation of church and state... but logically, I think America is a Cristian country. We were founded upon christian beliefs, most of our polititions are christan, and our money aeys "In God We Trust" and while one coul argue that dosen't nessisarily mean the Christian God, but I think those who think that are just naive.
I dont like it, but we are a Christian country... whether we admit it or not.

The USA is officially free. You are a fraud who should stop using the word "we" when speaking of Americans. You are no longer one of us.
