"I have attached some newspaper clips showcasing my versatility as a writer."
Should I use a comma? Does showcasing work?

I agree that "clippings" might work better than clips. And "showcasing" is good but "demonstrating" works better in my opinion. The grammar is perfect.

No commas needed.

"Clippings" instead of "clips"

I think showcasing is OK, sounds a bit cocky. On a ********* scale of 1-10, I'd put it at maybe a 4.

Or maybe try something like: "Attached are some newspaper clippings that adequately demonstrate my versatility as a writer."

Obviously, you are a WANNABE writer. I suggest you find some books on the subject and learn more about this.
Persaverence is 99% of success. Keep at it.
The word showcase is usually associated with stage performing. It may be helpful to consult a Thesaurus to find words of better choosing.

You don't need a comma, but it doesn't flow well. I would say it this way:

I have attached some examples demonstrating my versatility as a writer.

I don't know where you intended to put it, but a comma isn't needed anywhere in your sentence. "showcasing" is a bit pretentious, "showing", "illustrating" or "demonstrating" work as well and sound better.
