It happened in 2004. If I do not pay it, will it be erased from my credit after 7 years anyway?

If I do pay, when will this payment be reflected on my credit report.

I'd set up payment arrangements if you can't pay all at once. It will still be on your credit report as once in collections, but look better paid. No sense in leaving there for another 4 to 7 years just looking bad.

alterfemego...wanna borrow my crying towel?

stan c....a CA with 35 years experience certainly knows that a simple cease and desist letter will put a stop to the harassing calls.....why did you neglect to include that piece of advice in your response? Just the same old "rubber stamp" response of "just pay the debt!".

Spiff is right (but 7 years only...starting from the date of service in the case of medical bills). They are not likely to sue you for such a small amount, but the hit to your credit will mess up your score for a while.

Note that paying off the debt does NOT remove the negative information from your reports. It will still be considered a negative item and will hurt your score, even though you paid it. Stan forgot that part too.....

If you pay it, get them to agree IN WRITING to delete the entry from your report. If they won't do it, don't pay. Why would do pay a debt but still have it hurt your credit? Doesn't make sense. Not when we have people like alterfemego willing to pay your unpaid debts!

True, it comes off 7 years but they can call about the account balance until the day you die. For that small amount, it's not worth it. Plus if you apply for credit, you could be denied credit because of the balance owed.

Derogatory accounts stay on your credit for 7 years form the date of first delinquency so it's really more like 7.5 years.

If you pay, it will still show on your credit it will simply read paid $0 balance.

Probably in ten years. But how did you escape the collections. The amount is not a lot, why not just pay the thing.

You now what, you need to pay that. Come on, if you need help again, where in the hell do you think you're going to get it from? Do this to our economy, all of us end up paying for your mistakes and frankly, I'm tired of it! So get off your butt and take care of your responsibilities!
