You buy a freshly charged bottle of gas and return the empty one for recharging. You dont charge it yourself.

You're speaking of bottled gas, I think. Depending upon the type of cylinder, many propane gas places will refill it for you much more cheaply than swapping out your empty for a filled one.

Check the phone book. Take your empty, and if they can fill it and your bottle is compatible, you'll save money. If the bottle is not compatible, in the U.S. I think Blue Rhino is one that is fixed where you can't have it refilled (thus, buying their product again) you get around this by asking what types or companies's bottles can be refilled.

After finding out which bottles are compatible, go to your hardware store or where ever these are sold, buy the preferred bottle with gas in it and swap out your old, used tank for the new one. In the future, you can just have them refilled.

The difference in markup can be over 100%

Not a good idea.

Try a petrol burning oven. Connect a syphon tube to your fuel tank to feed directly to your cooker.
The faster you drive, the faster your chips cook.
