I just got my tattoo the day before yesterday. Every bit of info. I read on after care seems to differ just a little. I'm pretty sure I listened to what my tattoo artist said but now as I read things, I'm not sure. My tattoo is really pretty and I want it to stay that way.

Use A&D ointment. IF it is large and oozes a lot, you will want to put A&D on it then put plastic wrap on it before you sleep just to keep clothing and bedding from sticking to it. I use sensitive baby wipes to lay on the tat and press on it to remove A&D when I put on a new layer of the ointment. I don't rub the tat with the wipe I just press on it. The wipe also cools the burning feeling of the new tat.

I had to do this with my last one because it goes into the bend of my elbow and the way I sleep, something would have stuck to the tat.

After the initial scabbing, when it is drying and healing, I always use Johnson's shea butter baby lotion or regular baby lotion (pink) just for moistures sake because at this point, A&D has served it's purpose.

You can bathe/shower as usual, just don't rub the tat. The only water harmful to a tat is salt water (ocean) and chlorine (pool). Normal bathing/showering won't hurt it at all.

Don't use ointments, Vaseline (or similar products), or Polysporin/Neosporin, etc.

Ointments and Vaseline don't allow your tattoo to breathe - which is important for healing any small wound. Polysporin/Neosporin are meant to draw foreign cells from your skin, such as tattoo ink.

The best thing to use is either an unscented body lotion, such as Lubriderm, or tattoo cream, like H2Ocean.

As it's healing, it's important to not peel the scabs - let them fall off on their own. If you peel them prematurely, you can pull the ink out of your tattoo. Also, don't sumberge your tattoo in water for at least 6-8 weeks, and don't expose it to direct sunlight/UV rays (even after it's healed you should use sun screen).

-Don't cover it back up.
-Don't let it dry out...use a fragrance free lotion on it. (Don't use neosporin on it, it could pull out some color).
-No matter how much you want to, don't pick at it or scratch it when it starts to itch. It will itch a bit when it begins to heal.
-For the future, get a SPF stick for days in the sun if it's visible. You don't to let the sun's rays damage your tat!

A&D ointment. It is anti-bacterial and mosturizes the skin. Keeps the scabbing to a minimum while allowing it to heal.
