The sad part about your question is that so many people haven't realized that the patriot act has taken many of our constitutional rights away, and no one has read the full manuscript of the patriot act. Did you know that in the patriot act that our soldiers, police force, can legally rape women and children to get information out of them for terrorists information. Meaning if they think that your involved with terrorist or have knowledge of them (now remember the word THINK) then they are allowed to do to you whatever to get the information. That to me in itself is a tragedy. Then there is this part that they can enter your home if they THINK your a terrorist, or know someone that's affiliated with a terrorist that has been to your home. You could be completely innocent and they can still target you. There is so much in that patriot act the the U.S. citizens don't know, it's ridiculous. So we have lost many rights you just don't know it until it affects you in some way.

If "civil unrest" becomes an issue they wouldn't take anyone's guns away, they would send in the military. We've had civil unrest before, we didn't need to worry about gun laws.

Freedom of speech? Freedom of religion? Freedom of the press? How could these possibly be affected?

What rights would we need to give up in order to deport illegals, lol, they aren't all that hard to catch. (don't forget we've only just started enforcement) Oh, how about giving the police the right to search our homes for illegals? They can come right in, I'll bake cookies.

4th amendment - Protection from unreasonable search and seizure. ... police can already search anyone's home if they suspect crimes are being committed, don't you ever watch cops or swat?

They can't just decide that out the blue. It has to go through a process. You make it sound like they can change any laws without any hearings. Anyone who wants a gun bad enough will get them on the black market. What's going to happen when all the crooks starting robbing, killing, assaulting people who have no means of defense will the police have enough time to catch them all while letting other crimes go unpunished?

I'll play: Depends on which right(s) it is. All of life is about choices and trade-0ffs. Make me a specific proposition and I'll give you a specific answer.

Sorry Lonewolf, but this question is too esoteric -- and maybe not all that realistic either -- to apply on a bright, sunny see-everything-as-it-REALLY-is Saturday afternoon.

You see, we don't HAVE to give up any Constitutional rights to

a)Rigorously defend our borders.
b) Arrest and deport.
c) Punish and fine noncompliant employers.
d) Withdraw the freebies.

We could be doing all that right now today...while bearing arms, having a free press, etc. The Patriot Act has never stressed me out...I have nothing to hide.

None. Of course, I also don't believe it is necessary. Constitutional rights don't need to be trampled in order to reduce illegal immigration. All we need to do is actually deport the ones who are arrested and adjudicated to be here illegally. The dirty little secret is that our immigration system is so underfunded and so inept that we don't even deport the ones we catch. No wonder nobody takes the law seriously.

This IS a new tactic. You aren't going to find that you change any minds here by trying to stoke up hysteria. Dealing with illegals is simple -- attrition. We make life miserable for them and they go home. Put those who employ them in jail. Make it impossible for them to work. Give them NOTHING -- no benefits, no public schooling for their children, no social services, no banking, no credit, no ownership of any kind. Punish those who harbor or aid them in any way with prison. Deport immediately upon locating one. If they are caught in the country a 2nd time, imprison them for 10 years and deport again.

It won't take long to fix the problem if we face it head on. We don't need to give up Constitutional Rights...the illegals do.

You would have to kill me if you wanted to take my guns. The "Civil Unrest" should be against the illegals and then against the two-faced lying bastards in Congress!

Nope, wouldn't be ok at all.

(And I never even owned a gun until recently, and that due to Katrina aftermath being predictable, once considered, in any major city in the case of a true emergency.)

My Rights have nothing to do with illegals, and anyone that says that they do is a liar. As to how many I am willing to part with: NONE!! Anyone that is OK with giving up Rights to be secure is a slave already!

Not the right to bear Arms. We need to them to defend our country from those who want to conquer the US. Theer is a power I told called the NAU that wants to conquer this continent.

Not the Freedom of speech. I'm a loud moth jerk, who wants to scream out of the top of my lungs my various conspiracy theory.
