God knows! I have asked this myself to others frequently and never yet got a satisfactory answer. Seems such a pointless exercise to me.

I had a few last night and felt it this morning :s! I used to have a bit of an alcohol problem but got it sorted out so that I can have a drink every now and again without going over the top. I understand what you mean though, every weekend there's people all over the world vowing never to drink again but next weekend they'll be in the same position!
I guess we never learn (well, I did but I got professional help) but that's just the way the world works, I'm afraid :)

At first it starts with peer pressure, then you actually aquire a taste for it. As you begin to be getting pretty good at it ( so YOU think ) these reasons are trumped by excusses. You want to drowned out the fact that your wife left you for your best friend, and you can't afford to go out because of all of the child-support you have to pay. Getting smashed ( as you say ) helps you rationalize that it's your responsibility to support YOUR kids and certainly your ex is spending that money on them instead of her own habits...Then your kids grow older and have your grandchildren who call your ex-bestfriend Paw- Paw, a name you always wanted....Then you say to yourself ( man this is dumb ) and you sober up and begin to enjoy life...

If you dont understand it you never will, some people live for it some people cant understand it, for me, im all for it and cant understand why people dont want to come out partying all weekend, i love it, but i try to understand the other side, and yes the hangovers suck *** but whatever, its part of the deal and the lifestyle you want to lead. Please dont form oppinions about people who do this eather, i have a good job, nice stuff, but love tearin it up.

that's your gain

but

you wake up the next day with a hangover.

that's you pain.

Totally agree with you - why make yourself feel like death when moderation just makes you feel good.
