no crueler than circumcision... same thing right? science and medicine have proven that there are little to no benefits of doing it so why do we still do it?
so if circumcision is still done do to the fact people accept it as normal than pits, rots and dobes ( as well as all the less common dogs it is done too ) should continue to be clipped.
i mean your worried about his ears but not his testicles or her ovaries. come on people don't be too ignorant. if your going to be up in arms about animal cruelty then get on board and stop all forms
how about the microchips tat are being placed in reptiles when done to snakes it can skewer their internal organs and kill them. but know one seems to care because they don't have fur.
marine ( that means saltwater ) fish are still being taken from the reefs as well as live rock and coral, don't see you crying about that.
animals are being pumped full of hormones antibiotics and steroids for the sake of the almighty dollar and its tearing our human bodies apart, still no complaint.
so stop worrying about the lil puppies and put your damn heads back in the ground, where they belong.
that's all for now

while it isn't the best feeling thing for the dog, many breeds do have this done. on a staff the only reason to have it done is because that is what YOU like, not because of breed specifications. if you are going to have it done regardless then make sure you find a vet who has experience in this. ask for referrals and follow up with them about their experiences. some inexperienced vet will unintentionally mutilate the pups ears due to no experience. also the best time to do this is between 8 and 12 weeks old. if the dog is older than this, then it will be less likely that the ears will stand and you just wasted your money.

I won't say that it's cruel.. If you have it done by a good vet, who is known to do a good job.. You get good after care and you take care of the dog / ears properly.. It's not cruel.
What it is tho.. is unnecessary. It makes your dog not as approachable, and it makes it harder to properly socialize your dog.. When you walk down the street with your cropped eared dog, and people run, or back away or refuse to come over.. It gives your dog two ideas, people are bad, and there is a problem..

i think it is entirely cruel and pointless to crop a dog's ears unless it is for a very specific health-related reason. Unless you are afraid of your dog getting an ear torn off while hunting boars and mountain lions, and developing an infection, you really don't have a reason to.
I know that a lot of dogs like the Great Danes will have their ears clipped too, but I still think it is really unneccessary pain for them.

Are you kidding? Do not under any circumstance clip, rubberband or tie off anything on a animal. If you have a doberman and want to have their ears done, have it done professional. Infection or the chance of maiming your animal is to high to take that chance.

nooo of course not! When pupies get their ears done, they cant even feel it as the vets are clipping the.. The only time it hurts them it when you take your dog back to the vet to get the first set of bandages of.. then they re-tape the ears.. and after a while you take the puppy back and it never hurts or bothers the dog again.. personally I think for certain dogs it looks better clipped... I have a doberman (and of course naturally they have floppy ears..) and I got his ears done.. and they are perfect! but only do it to a type of dog who is suopposed to have ears look like that ; )
