I have a 4 month old male English Bulldog. When the time is right I would like to have him neutered. I have come across conflicting ideas as to the age it should be done with this breed. Some say 6 months, like most dogs. Others say wait 1 year and others say wait until they are completely matured (2 years) Apparently some people think if you don't wait until they are 2 they may miss out on the benefits of their testosterone surge, and may not develop the way a male bulldog should ( broad shoulders, thick neck etc.) I really hope that somebody with some real knowledge of the breed can help me out. thanks

At 6 months he should be physically mature enough to be neutered. If you wait until 2 years old you have a greater chance of the boy developing cancer, makring issues, male dominance issues and not to mention unwanted pups.

I raise bulldogs. So get it done at 6 months. It will not harm the dog in any way. I have even seen people get a dog fixed at 8 weeks of age for that you need a vet speical vet. And those dogs don't miss out on any thing.

I main thing I will tell you is ask you vet if he is confertable with Bulldogs. As when you put a bulldog under you have to put a tube done there throught because they can get so relaxed and stop breathing if you don't. I just say this so you understand why you need to ask the vet. Don't worry my bullies are just fine. They had to be put under for a C-section.

6 months is the best. if you wait teh testasterone picks up and some of the habit will not be able to be changed like wondering when smells a female in heat.
The longer you wait the more chance of cancer.
having a dog fixed rather male or female has nothing to do with the size the dog will get htat's in the genes note in the sex organs.
I have worked in vets offices for many years and have seen many dogs fixed and continu to come in ot the vets and they are fine.
All the vets I've worked at strongly suggest having a dog fixed by 7 months

By 6 months there should be no problem getting him neutered. It might actually help curb some annoying behaviors like humping everything he sees, and/or spraying (work with some rescues and wow do they all seem to want to hump if they haven't been neutered by at least a year old....), and he'll be old enough that there is no hormonal or growth issues you should worry about.

ask your vet, I have a female and did not have her spayed until she was about 6 y/o it's best to have it done as soon as possible to help him not have as many health problems. and he can tollorate the surgery better & faster recovery.
