Prey instinct - they see something run - they chase it. Dogs don't chase cats which sit & stare them out.

Because it's fun. At my house sometimes it's the dog chasing the cat around and at other the cat chases the dog. Just playing.

I think they chase cats because the cats seem to run and the dog thinks its prey, my 2 dogs live with a cat but if they see one in the street they go mad i don't know why it happens.

our dog chases cats cause we encouraged him to as a pup( we had a serious cat problem in the neighbourhood). Its usually a prey-drive.

note: our dog doesn't chase our own two cats...he's such a good boy!

My present dog chases those that run, I had a Springer that knew it could make cats run so those that just sat there got barked at and nudged.

instinct..if you saw a dog and you run they'll surely chase you too,but if you walk calmly and never look at their eyes they wont harm you..its only a matter of respect..dogs are very territorial, if we walk in it, like cats do too, they're alarmed, but if you'll show them you mean them no harm they wont harm you too..but of course cats has no choice but to run to protect itself from that big thing..I have a dog and 2 cats at home, they played a lot, but when i heard my dog growling at my cats or trying to eat their food, i reprimand my dog..I'm teaching my dog to respect my cats..and hey, they get along very well..Now my dog learned to wait to eat their left overs once my cats were done..he will just wait next to their bowl while my cats eating..hehehe!
