What if they start looking for illegals who are European or African? Will YOU be happy to be detained for DAYS maybe WEEKS while they sort out who's legal or not? Remember..Documents can be forged so they can't just look at your ID's and let you go.

BTW...I could care less about the illegals they find. What concerns me is the CITIZENS who also get caught up in these types of situations.

Its just like suffering. if it is not happening to you , it is not that bad.

Nobody would like that obviously.

In many European countries, everyone is required to have a passport or a national ID card on him at all times. If these documents are all linked to a central database, then it's quite easy to do a check of whether the document is forged. I think there's some potential for abuse when all this information about people is kept in one place, but it's certainly possible to have a system where people's immigration status can be checked in minutes.

Come on, I didn't expect the 'what if they started with Europeans or Africans' from you. What about the Canadian woman who was strip searched and made to shower for intake while being processed for legal presence, when picked up on a traffic ticket?

This isn't about race.

I'll go one further, though. The TERMS of the Patriot Act say the administration can just consider someone a terrorist suspect and not even give them a habeus corpus hearing, even if they are a LEGAL immigrant. I say the TERMS recite that because I think our Constitution has something to say about that. However, it is a fact that our government is being given powers that greatly intrude on what we have considered always to be our 'inalienable rights'.

On the other hand, I DON'T consider it too great a burden on legal immigrants to be able to prove they are legally here within 5 days. Legal immigrants should have the proper paper trail permitting that to be confirmed, pretty quickly. There will be glitches with every system, occasionally, though.

why would that happen? First, any responsible citizen should have some sort of ID on them to prove citizenship. They should be able to ID you within 24 hours...after all, didnt the last amnesty bill they were trying to run thru say that they were going to run a background check within 24 hours? If they can do that, then why would it take days to ascertain if your legal or not? hmmmm...was that alot of smoke or what? What about the "National ID card" they were throwing out to the public? Sorry, I just dont see this scenario happening of being detained for days often, IF at all...

U.S. Citizens have nothing to fear from the raids. Has it not occurred to you that the burden of proof lies on the government to show that a person is here illegally? Failure to cooperate with an investigation will get you detained, however. Never a problem if you have genuine documents and can fully identify yourself.

I am not illegal, so that would have no effect on me. If you enter this country illegally, sometimes you have to pay the consequences. And I say "sometimes" because alot of them are getting away with a lot more than citizens do. If you are legal and detained, blame your illegal brothers and sisters for putting you in this position.

Of course I wouldn't be happy, knowing that I am a legal American citizen born and raised and there are illegals who don't care a thing for the US who are running around.
My husband was a refugee from a communist country and he spent over one year in a refugee camp. He never complained about it since it was the price he had to pay to be free.

When my grandparents came from Europe in the early 1900s they were detained and had no other recourse. If they need to detain, to sort out illegals so let it be.

So, another potential issue Americans may face due to illegals. Of course I wouldn't want to be detained forever while they figure out that I'm not one of the illegals creating uproar in everyone's lives.

Of course I wouldn't "like it"...but I'd also have no problem with proving my citizenship on demand, if it became an issue. If this was an issue with those who looked like me, I'd carry a copy of my birthcertificate along with the social security card and drivers license that I already carry. Perhaps I'd even carry my passport.

I guess my answer is that if it is necessary, I'd "man up" and deal with it.

Now that there IS a system in place that can check social security numbers against other information immediately, this really shouldn't be an issue.

All illegal aliens should be deported ASAP. It is not my fault that the majority of illegals are Latino. If the Latinos in the USA would learn English, then they wouldn't be mistaken for Illegal aliens. The fact is that the majority of illegal aliens are being protected in their communities by fellow Latinos and liberal politicians.

Let’s face it, the liberal politicians have surrendered to the illegal alien invaders. It’s a sad state of affairs when the liberal mayors of sanctuary cities welcome illegal aliens with open arms in violation of federal immigration laws. And now, Shitzer, the liberal governor of New York, is allowing illegal aliens to get driver’s licenses. These traitorous politicians must be stopped.

It may be time for another civil war. The northeastern states and the left coast states are openly defying federal authority by welcoming illegal aliens into their communities. They are creating their own immigration policies and surrendering to the hordes of illegal alien invaders.
