my friend went to the shop and while he was gone he had a run on one of his rods. i struck his rod and reald in the
34lb 2oz mirror carp and neted it as he came back, he claimed the fish, said it was on his rod and his rod found the fish. i disagreed but wasnt to fussed about it. he got upset that i said it was my catch. all is cool between us but we are wondering who would actuly have rights to claim the catch.

YOU HOOKED IT YOU REELED IT IN YOU LANDED IT WHO DO YOU THINK CAUGHT THE FISH IT WASN'T YOUR MATE, was it tell him you caught the fish and that's it if he wants to catch fish he should stay with his kit and if he wants to go wandering he should be sensible enough to take his tackle out of the water before he goes anyway

Technically, who ever grabs the rod and sets the hook is officially the one given credit for the catch. There have been world records taken away from people who landed the fish but did not grab the rod first. Subsequently, the record was given to the first person to grab the rod regardless who the rod belongs to. This is common on charter boats where the first mate sets the hook then turns it over to a customer only for the first mate and the charter boat to get the credit.

However, as an avid fisherman for over 30 years in the Great lakes, streams and rivers. I can tell you that it is always a group effort and everybody gets a high five and a share of the prize. If you can't be happy for your friends than your not friends.

OK, Let me get this straight here. You saw a fishing bite on a rod where you were fishing. You grabbed the rod and set the hook. You played the fish well enough to bring it to shore. You netted the fish and landed it. AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?? What fish are you asking about?

The fish belongs to the one who owned the fishing rod. I ran across a similar situation. I was fishing with my boss. I had a monster bite Within seconds, my boss had a monster bite. We both reeled our lines up and one huge summer flounder hit the deck. Before I could see whose hook was in the fish's mouth, my boss unhooked the fish and claimed it as his.Nothing I could do about it except to surrender the doormat summer flounder.
