the puppy is about 4 weeks old right now, and the lady wants to have them leave when they are 6-7 weeks old.

Puppies are A LOT of work and require tons of time and care.
They have to be taken out every 2-3 hours for potty training.
Unless you work out of your home, or have someone home all day and night, don't get a puppy.
If you want a dog, get a rescue dog that is older and house trained.

If you are questioning yourself, then the answer is probably no. Dog, especially puppies, need a lot of time, love, and attention. This would be for house training and manners, as well as socialization and creating a comfort level in a world outside your back yard.
Depending on the breeding, if the lady is not a regular breeder, there may also be unknown behavior problems with the puppies that would need additional time to work through.

You should be getting the puppies in 7 weeks, not a couple of weeks. Also, the only maltese you're going to get for $200.00 is a poorly bred one from a puppy mill.
If you even think that you don't have time for a puppy then do NOT get a puppy.
Rescue a potty trained adult who won't shred your undies and leave nasty presents for you under your sofa.

A couple of weeks?
The puppy won't be ready to leave the mother until it is 8-10 weeks old.
I don't think this person is a good breeder.
They sound like a bad breeder to me.
Please don't get this puppy because she doesn't know what she is doing.
She doesn't need to be breeding dogs because she is not knowledgable.

Puppies take A LOT of time and alot of money. You don't have to shell out the money to buy it, but you also have to take it to the vet and feed it. I estimated in the first 6 months of our puppy's life we spent well over $300 that did not include the cost of the pup. They are great companions, but there is a cost that goes above and beyond. Be perfectly certain that you can handle the financial responsibility as well as the time that it takes to properly train a pup.
Check out this site.... it may help you see if you are ready.

Maybe not this time since you arent even sure if you have enough time. It won't be fair for the puppy if it doesn't have the attention it needs. There will always be other maltese puppies, so maybe next time when you are dead sure you can handle one!

Am I understanding this right? The puppies were just born, and they are going to be sold in two weeks? Puppies need to be with their mom for at least 8 weeks. If they are removed from their mother earlier, they can suffer behavioral problems. (puppies learn how to behave during the first weeks spent with their mother.)

A puppy will require a lot of your time and attention, plus you will need to do behavior training. A puppy doesn't know what to do. You have to teach it to be a good dog. If you don't have time to take it to behavior classes and to crate train it, don't do it. It will just end up with you giving it away to a shelter or to someone else. I manage a No-Kill shelter. I speak from experience. Please, if you can't invest time and energy, don't get this dog. Breeds don't matter. All breeds of dogs need instruction and training to be "good" dogs.

A maltese will have to be an indoor dog, which means it will have to be house trained. All dogs need time and attention, but house breaking is especially time-consuming. If time is an issue, you should consider adopting an adult dog that is already house broken.

a couple of weeks is wat too soon.pups should be with mom a minimum of 8 to 10 weeks. if you already think you won't have the time, you are probably right. taking this pup
requires time and dedication. vet bills over the first six monmths could be costly. all pups are cute and people don't realize the time required, next comes the ill mannered dog and the pound
