If the girl is like 14 and the guy is 12 then its kinda messed up, but as you get older age doesnt matter as much, so in the long run it wont be a big deal at all and you should tell him.

Two years is nothing date wise...UNLESS it's at the illegal 18 line. So if those two years puts the girl over 18 and the guy under...forget it.

Even though she is popular and all, i wouldn't date her, simply because the age difference is a bit much when it comes to dating.
