...and he did?

If so, what was it?

not in the way you say. i believe that at times you are naturally more in touch with your spirituality and that of the planet around you and at these times you can divine information from the images put in your path.

if that's 'god' giving you a sign, then so be it.

i am not an atheist, but i resist definition of god. even the christians admit that you need a 'personal relationship' with god/jesus. the nature of god is infinate and as such, can surely be perceived and interacted with in infinite ways.

Yes, I have. I did that many times in the past, because I was raised Catholic and the more I read and thought and learned about Catholicism, the less I believed, which really frightened me. I begged for any sign that god exists, and nothing appeared.

Now, years later, I have regained my senses and am not panicky or desperate -- I am an atheist and proud of it. Still, I occassionally ask for a sign when a theist tries to prove god, because I know saying a few magic words won't do anything. If it did, there wouldn't be AIDS, poverty, war, hunger, or Chris Crocker.

Yes, I've asked God for a sign. Specifically, I asked for the "Yield" sign, and the "Slow Children Playing" sign.

Gotta love those slow children playing.

No, God didn't give these to me, but I'm sure that was because they belonged to someone else at the time.

;-)

I actually wanted to respond to Mark 101112's answer, in which he suggests that Christians should not seek signs, because according to Matthew 16:4 only wicked and adulterous people do this.

Context is everything. The "wicked and adulterous generation" Jesus was speaking of were the people of his own day, and the sign that they received was the sign of the Prophet Jonah. This latter part may have a nice double meaning, but it at least means that the people of Jesus' own day would see a man "three days in the 'belly of the great fish' (i.e., in the bowels of death)" come forth again. This is a prophecy that Jesus' own generation would be firsthand witnesses of his death and resurrection.

What Jesus did NOT do is state a general principle that everyone who asks for or seeks a sign is wicked and adulterous. That not only is a bad reading of the text of Matthew, it also flies in the face of what we find in the balance of the Bible.

Sorry to have started off with a bad joke, BTW. But not sorry enough to remove it!

;-))

This is a true story. Before hurricane Andrew came ashore in South Florida I wasn't sure whether to evacuate or not. So I prayed for a sign or to be led in making the right decision. Well, I did the ignorant thing and stayed. After about three hours into the storm a 7-11 sign came through my boarded up front window darn near hitting me. I guess that was my sign.

Well, right now I'm a freshman in college, and have political science/ pre-law as my major. I still have my doubts on whether I'm going to change it, but about a month ago I met a guy a!ll the way from New Hampshire here in Georgia! And guess what- he was retired from the FBI with a political science major! I don't know if that means that I should continue in the same path, but I think God works things out!

Yes, I have. Early in my faith, I was struggling deeply with several issues, especially having come from a metaphysical background. I was struggling with being a wife again, being strong, like I am, yet submissive and graceful. I asked God to show me something beautiful, and delicate, yet strong.

I began to see more butterflies than normal. I would see them driving, taking a walk, it seemed one was always around. I looked up what kind one of them was, since it was unbelievably beautiful in color. It was then, in reading about them, that I found out just how delicate their wings are, yet how very strong they are, being the only insect who's wings move in that way to fly. Delicate beauty that is also strong.

Now, whenever I seem to be struggling, or down, a butterfly is around. It's like my person sign from God that He is here, even though in my faith, I know He is.

God Bless

Yes, and it did happen, but not over night. I believe that God wanted me to go through some things first.

I asked him for clarity when I was torn between two people. I got my clarity and I made the right choice.

No, because it says in the Bible to not ask for signs but believe your requests will be answered. The hard part is seeing when our prayers are answered as God does not always answer as we expect.

Yes, and little hole opened in a cloudy sky, and a beam of light shined down and glistened off the river. I also talked to a Native American in Nashville about how his people were supposed to call up rain. Nashville was in the middle of a drought. No rain for a month.
The guy laughed at me and said, "Yeah go ahead and make it rain." So I got a wild hair up my butt, since I was a little buzzed. And went out in the street an looked up and said. "Heavenly Father, Nashville needs rain." And yelled, "RAIN!"
And it started raining!

Frankly..... NO !

This is WHY......!

(Matthew 16:4) A wicked
and
adulterous generation

seeks after a sign.

And there shall
no sign be given to it,
except the sign
of the prophet Jonah.

And He [JESUS] left them

and went away.

Thanks, RR
