Do you mean infrared?

There are CO2 lasers that emit light in the infrared, and those are very powerful, those would cut and melt a surveillance camera. It is all a matter of how powerful a beam is. If you want to use the infrared from a remote control unit, forget it, the power it puts out is so weak, you would not see it if it was visible light of that power.

Our homeland security isn't threatened because people are seeking information and education. It is threatened because there are groups of people who hate and want to kill us.

Some information should be classified (how to build a nuke) but I don't think normal lasers fall into that category. Anyone who is walking around with a high powered laser (would he even be able to carry this thing) is going to arouse some suspicion from whoever is watching those cameras. Kinda defeats the purpose.

the imagers in typical CCD camera respond to IR. they also respond to flashlight, to an LED pointer and sunlight reflected from a compact mirror. they will also recover immediatly upon removal of the beam. they are pretty tough,

however it is not very stealth!!! high security systems have motion/change detectors and will alarm immediatly if so disabled. you will attract a lot of attention.

if all you want is to not be recognizable, just put on a ski mask. if you want to knock out the camera, a shotgun will do just fine.

the "perfect crime" stuff is just for hollywood movies. it looks good on screen, just don't try it in real life.
