Has the thought ever occurred to you they were speaking of CITIZENS that had been targeted because of their appearance? Or are you only thinking of two words in the story...illegal immigrants?

Think about it - what does the ACLU spend more of their energy on? Protecting the rights of illegal aliens, not protecting the rights of citizens that are being profiled.

I do feel bad for the citizens (and legal immigrants) that are being targeted - it certainly happens. The Puerto Ricans in my area get it all the time, and they are certainly U.S. citizens.

What civil right abuse> The citizen is the 1 that's IDS & SS# stolen> Having to pay the bills for the illegals>Job lost>you know the list> It's the rights of the USA citizens that's being abused>

Yes, I see one word: illegal, and then I wonder when my son will stop being targeted for his disabilities (esp. because he is actually a citizen) and be able to return to public school...whenever that whole overcrowding and budget demolishing due to illegals is taken care of. Illegals need to leave and Mexico needs to be held accountable for the enormous amount of money they have cost us.

EDIT: I did read the question. If it's someone that is a citizen based on the distortion of the Constitution, I still see one word: illegal.

If there is not a law on the books we need a law that says that any type of public accommodation should be subjected to certification that the person applying has to be a citizen or lawful resident of the USA. Other than the right to not be harmed the illegals have no rights, how can people that have no right to be here, claim that they are being discriminated against because they have to prove they have a right to be here

Civil Rights abuses will continue to occur until people stop seeing a particular skin-color or nationality or gender or financial status as "superior" over another. Those who abuse other human beings are capable of justifying their actions with arguments about their "superiority". I see this in my own family even, my parents are always talking about "dirty Mexican immigrants" who bring disease across the border. It makes me so angry that I do not even want to sit at the same table as my parents! I think about men who do not speak English who work so hard, doing hard dirty work out in the hot sun, and then they get cheated out of their wages. They go home, so tired, to a wife and children who love them, and he loves them too, and they often don't have enough to eat or maybe one of the children is sick and it makes me so mad. ALL people deserve to be paid for their hard work, they deserve access to quality medical care for their little children, and if my taxes are higher in order for other human beings to have these things, then so be it. I am willing to pay a little more in taxes, to help others. It's just money. It's just a life. And that life is worth more than malnutrition and no doctor. A CURSE UPON THOSE WHO WOULD DENY ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING, those things which every human being has a right to have: Shelter from the elements, adequate nutrition, clothing appropriate for the season, access to medical attention, access to public education. AND wages when they work for them!! SO THERE!

Do the tenets of US civil rights apply to illegal aliens within the US? Are the concepts of US civil rights only applicable to US citizens...or to anyone WITHIN the US regardless of their nationality?

I happen to believe the latter (that they are meant to apply to everyone physically here).

That belief system doesn't make me any less anti illegal though!

Illegal aliens "use" the term "civil rights abuse" very freely. As someone who was active in the civil rights movement, I resent it. When I see the way they try to manipulate a system and hijack a cause for their own selfish motives, I get extremely angry. When they try to milk our system of it's resources, who do they think they are hurting? OUR poor. They take resources that we really can't afford to give and that aren't theirs to take.

They aren't citizens, so of course they are talking about ILLEGAL ALIENS. Although I don't think they should suffer human rights violations, they ARE NOT citizens and should not be accorded civil rights.

I also tend to think that they cry "wolf" quite a lot...just like they cry "racism" AND, quite frankly, I don't put much credence into arguments that are based entirely on emotionalism rather than intelligent discourse.

Tax payers alone should benefit from tax revenue.
illegal immigrates are thief's, they violate civil rights, and under the constitution are not granted them.
