I was brought up a Christian, have been to church school and have read and heard people in regards to the bible. I consider my self open minded, but at no time have I thought this makes me believe in God. I only agree with the principles of the message of love and kindness to each other.

I will throw my self on the sword of public ridicule to say that is exactly what happened to me. I was actually looking for a loophole to throw back at the Christians around me, instead I came to believe. I was not raised in a church, and had no preconceptions.

I was into "new age". I read tarot cards, I used the gong hee fot choy... I was "accepting" of everything and everybody and just thought this world was plain cruel. I forgot about God during all these years, forgot what my parents taught me and found my way back to The Bible when I was researching the Illuminati and the New World Order. I read the Bible more and more and one day it dawned on me and i discovered this was the Truth. It's been a process. And no, you don't have instant faith in God. It's been a windy road for me, but I try my best every day to follow Jesus.
3 months after I read the Bible, I had the worst news in one week. I had to move out of the house I lived in, because my landlord didn't pay the mortgage. I had a car accident (nobody was hurt, but my whip was a total loss) and didn't have a way to get to work (which is a 45 minute drive alone one way). Some offenden neighbor got upset because I didn't want to be her friend and called CPS on me with absurd accusations and my financial situation was beyond broke.
I prayed every day. And within ONE WEEK out of nowhere I was lend a car, found a new place and CPS dropped the case. I don't know how, because I didn't spend a dime, but it happened. Thank the Lord Jesus Christ, my savior.
Faith keeps me going.

The Bible does lead to Jesus and faith= however you must be open to hearing the word of God. God speaks through His Word, and through other people- and directly to your heart. What do you mean by instant faith? When I was growing up , I went to church every sunday, and heard the Word of God in sunday school, so if it was instant, I would have accepted Him at at a younger age then I did. What made the difference when I was 17? I chose to listen.

I can give you some answers according to the scriptures.
1) the faith that Christians have is God given. So, some people read the bible, hears the word, but they don't get it.
2)Faith comes from hearing and through the word of Christ.
Hope I have helped.

Technically, the Bible says, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

I don't think reading the bible does anything to provide the reader faith. I think faith comes from trust built in relationships with friends or counselors.
The conversion rate is higher for those unbelievers who are "guided" through the bible reading by trusted friends than for solo-unguided tours of the bible.
Think of Amway, and how people start to believe in that. It is the same process.
