The projector is an ASK Proxima. It seems like its designed more for office presentations. It only has one video input, a dvi. It uses a cable that is dvi on one end and vga on the other to connect to computers with vga.
I live in the nyc area and have cablevision. The boxes have a dvi output on them, but I tried hooking it up to the projector, no signal.

Would be a huge help if anyone has any ideas. Thx!

There are two flavors of DVI, DVi analog, which is in effect VGA, and DVI digital (the output from your set-top box).

If the projector only supports DVI analog, then you will not be able to use your set-top box.

Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI for more details

Well the good news is what your trying to do is correct. The bad news is that the dvi port on the cable box wont work. A fiew months ago cable companys in that area did a nice little "update" to there boxes that actually killed most of the dvi ports out there, your best chance is to get one with a hdmi port and use a hdmi to dvi connecter.

That cable box's dvi output jack is probably not enabled, possibly an internal jumper? Check with your local cable company to find out if you can expect digital output from that jack. Any other outputs would be RF signal-useless to your projector.

Because of the marketing value of answers and influence in this area, a specific link or product I will not say. However, there are many affordable RF converters available at very affordable prices. What you are looking to do is convert an RF signal (specific to channel 3 or 4) to the video protocol known as "composite" recognized by the single RCA cable/jack with yellow. You might want to find a more advanced and slightly more expensive RF (Radio Frequency) to HDMI (DVI needs separate audio outputs) converter. The product you seek is called an "RF converter" with "composite" output. Good luck!

If the DVI doesn't work then you should be able to use VGA to VGA if your pj supports it. Doesn't the pj have a VGA (15pin) input? Or better yet, use a VGA to component adapter and connect it to a regular component cables.
