It occurred to me that we always make up funny stuff in words and wordplay but can the same be done with math? Can you come up with a funny math equation? Is that even possible? If anyone can do it, the greatest minds in the world here on YA can. Don't be discouraged if you draw a blank. It's quite possible that numbers aren't funny, and its impossible. I didn't put this question in the math section because I'm sure there are some nerdy mathematicians that will come up with some obscure algorithm or some such crap that they think is funny and nobody but Einstein would even understand it. I'm talking about a play on numbers that would make the average Joe bust out laughing. Good luck!

wow_bill: Cute stuff. I love the 1+1 joke. And that was a great number trick (I'm assuming). I like Michelles binary joke a lot too. Guinness your so cute when your scrambling. It's okay honey it's not your fault, numbers just aren't funny. You've all done a great job and deserve to have a bathtub full of your favorite pureed fruit to splash and play in but neither Sunkist nor Dole wanted to get involved. As for best answer I think i'm gonna go with the pithy michelle (her avatar winked at me)
I know I owe you guys but I'm trying give some of these newcomers encouragement.

There are only 10 types of people in this world...

Those who understand binary, and those who don't...

Guinness, your law professor makes us left-brained accountants look like the life of the party.

Using words with double meanings in clever ways is a classic Word Play. I think Michelle's answer is a perfect Number Play that mirrors a play on words.

***********************************************************

I know a riddle in Spanish that is kind of a Number Play but it is not as pure as Michelle's:

Question: Quantas estrellas hay in el cielo? (How many stars are there in the heavens?)

Answer: Cinquenta (50) Spanish speakers are stumped for a moment, but then get it. "Cinquenta" also sounds almost the same as "sin cuenta" which means "without count".

The CEO of a major company was looking to hire a new Chief Financial Officer. He had received hundreds of applications and narrowed his choice to the three he thought were the top candidates. He arranged for all three to come to his office for a brief interview on the same day, at the same hour.

When the time for the interview arrived the three candidates were seated in the waiting area outside of the CEO's office. Precisely at the appointed hour the CEO opened his office door and invited all three candidates to come in.

"The interview will be short, so there is no need to have a seat. I've read hundreds of resumes. You three gentlemen are eminently qualified for this job and I'm sure you would each do a very fine job. I have one question... 'How much is one plus one?'"

The first candidate responded without the least bit hesitation with an emphatic, "Two.", and turned to the next candidate.

The second candidate furrowed his brow, somewhat shocked and surprised, thought for a moment and replied, "Two?", and turned to the third candidate.

The third candidate looked over at each of the other two candidates, turned back to the CEO, shrugged his shoulders and said, "How much do you want it to be?"

Try this -

1. Pick any real number you want
(...But, remember you will have to do some math.)
2. Multiply your number by the number representing the current month.
3. To the result in Step 2, add the number representing the current year.
4. Divide the result of Step 3 by 3.
5. Multiple your orginal number by 3 and subtract it from the result of Step 4.
6. From the result in Step 5, subtract 620.
7. The result from Step 6 should be Numbsain's age. (...or, was it his IQ?)

Perhaps this doesn't qualify as Number Play, but if foreplay were fourplay, would men be more interested in it?

1] One over one inversed = sixty-nine;

2] 1 divided by 77*, + 1 raised to the 2nd power over
(4 X 2)** = Bush + Cheney;

* # of Dems in Congress
** yrs x terms

3] 2000 lbs of dumplings = one-ton soup

ouch, sorry. I'll try again later....

You know, one of my professors who taught "the economics of accidents" in law school, pointed to me for a response to a question posed during a lecture, the question was riddled with equations, and all I could say was "uh, they told me there would be no math?" [true story, but the line was borrowed from some slacker movie], yeah got a few chuckles, but the professor wasn't amused.

Ok, let's try one more time for a true equation.

Nothin plus nothin leaves nothin......ya gotta have somethin', if ya wanna be with me....

No, wait.

One Banana Two Banana Three Banana Four = Four Bananas blapa blapa blapa blam bore.

Come on Bill, you're an accountant, help us out here!

edit: uh, Bill? Michele has only one "l"....do the math, babe, do the MATH! hahaha.
So far, Michele has my vote! But the abacus is still on the table.

hey i found another one::::
Dolly Parton's bra size was 69. That's just 222 big. So she went down to 51st Street to see Dr. X who gave her 8 pills. She took them and it made her:
