If you leave the scene and the police don't come immediately will that cause a problem with the insurance claim?

Only your insurance company can answer that question. Most companies do not REQUIRE a police report, however, yours may. Their the only ones who can answer that question. I tell my clients to always get one - can't ever be too careful.

If there were no injuries and no public property was destroyed you should be ok. You still must file an accident report for any damages over $1500. I'd also suggest seeing a doctor as many injuries don't appear right away. The longer you wait to seek treatment, the more suspicious it would look to the insurance company in paying your claim.

It depends on what you did.

If you go off the road and into a ditch and the only thing damaged is your car - there is no need to get a police report.

It would not affect coverage for your damage. The only thing the adjuster may do - is let the underwriting department know that you hit another car and left the scene but that's it. We don't call the police and turn you in.

Any accident that requires an insurance claim, must be reported to the police. If there is no damage to other peoples property, you don't need to report, but you can't damage your car without damaging something else.
