Personally, I have always HATED this debate.
First of all, Christians nowadays have taken the Bible WAY too seriously. People think the Earth was actually created in literally SEVEN days. I'm not sure the exact number, but a day in the Bible is about a few thousand years, incase you weren't aware. Keep in mind that a big chunk of the Bible is symbolic. How could anyone believe that an actual six-headed beast is going to kill us all in the end.
Secondly, this evangelicalism (or whatever you call it) has completely portrayed the Christian face! Which is why we have so many atheists who find religion so stupid!
Why can't Christian just suck it up listen to the theories out there, and yes, I believe they can all cooperate with the Bible? Why can't atheists/agnostics wake up to the fact that religion is not stupid and it has become distorted under the work of man? Besides, most of them haven't even touched a Bible in their life.

Instigator, I am NOT an evolutionsit...
I was trying to make the point that there is a way to be both without conflict. I was just pointing out that a lot of Christians have gone way too far with things.

Okay, not ALL athists have not picke upa Bible, I know that's true. I can name several reasons why people become atheists. Most of the ones I know haven't even looked at a Bible, os I began to stereotype and I appologize to those of you who are atheists and have read the Bible.

Okay, here goes:
First, I agree with your statement that the Bible is taken too literally. People should kinda calm down... but it's their belief, and it's not my place to tell them they are "wrong" or "right"... only if I agree or disagree.
Second, You should look up the word "Evangelical". I don't think it means what you think it means. And, most Atheists think that RELIGION is stupid. Your belief in God probably doesn't bother them. It's the organized religion aspect. Not that I speak for all Atheists... this is just an opinion I have.
Lastly, Many Christians are more than willing to listen to other theories about the Bible... it's just those few that refuse are much louder and angrier, therefore taking the spotlight away from the "rational" Christians. I think that most Atheists/Agnostics are well aware that Man has distorted religion. No need to point that out.
As for your assertion that most Atheists/Agnostics have never touched a Bible in their life... WOW. That statement REALLY blows me away. Most TRUE Atheists/Agnostics have studied religious works (the Bible, as well as MANY others) extensively, and have a better understanding of scriptures than many Christians do. That kind of blanket statement is going to get you a lot of anger, and should REALLY be researched before it's posted.
Good luck to ya, and I hope you are enlightened a bit here today.

Creationism is a at the same time true and a mistake because they realy think that it happens in 6x24 hours.
But Peter said "Dont forget beloved that for God, a day may be thousand years and thousand years are worth one day"
This means that 1E-43 seconds (0. 42 zeros1 sec.) which is the Big Band is The First Day and 9 Billion years from the appearance of the first unicellulars life to now is 1 day too...
The second mistake is that in Genesis, a translation error happend when they say that "the spirit of God was over the water" instead of the "waves" wich means the original radiation of the black matter composing 99.99% of the Universe.
The second mistake is that God created man before woman because the woman is XX and God took a rib af the woman to make of her a man wich is XY.
Crazy, isn'it

To say that 'most athiests haven't touched a Bible in thier lives is very misguided.
I was raised as a Christian, confirmed into my church when I was 13 and never missed a Sunday service until I was 15. However, I was having serious doubts about religion by the time I was 10. When I took my vows of confirmation, it was torture. I was sure that I was damned forever. You see, logic told me that there was no God. However, logic also told me that if I was wrong...if there was a God...He would send me to Hell for my blaphemous thoughts.
Such was my road to athieism. I won't bore you with any more of the details, but suffice it to say that I know the Bible quite well. I think the best way for athieists and believers to see eye to eye is the following example:
I'm sure you know that the Romans had an entire pantheon of gods. They worshiped Jupiter and Neptune and a host of other gods. They had a god for everything, and each was sacred. I'm sure you know that the Greeks had a similar pantheon. The Aztecs, the Incas, the Mayans, the Egyptians...all these cultures had gods. You don't believe in any of them, do you? Well, I feel almost exactly the same way that you do. I just believe in one less god than you.

I don't understand why it's still a topic of hot debate after all these years. I don't see why people can't just accept that there are different viewpoints about certain things and make their own choices.
I am religious, but I'm not a Christian, and I don't see why belief in evolution would necessarily cancel out belief in God. In addition, I have a lot of Christian friends who are science oriented and not all Christians are creationists or fundamentalists.
I think the Bible should be taken seriously, but "seriously" doesn't always mean "literally."

It is evident by the answers given why we argue. In my gut I absolutely am convinced that things followed an evolutionary path with some devine intervention here and there - or at least "the seed" was planted so to speak. However, as shown there are folks out there who believe in their gut that creationism is the real deal. The two are so vastly different in scope that it is impossible to even debate without arguing. Its something that can't be changed in someone with a discussion or an argument. It just is. Its up to the individual to explore and search and make up their own mind....
...or they can simply go read the quick and easy explanation in a book written by humans. I heard that raccoons and other animals have their own bibles and argue about similar issues...lol. Raccoon one says..."I believe the great raccoon god made us and all these bountiful trash cans for us to eat from..." "Nah! says raccoon two, "I don't believe that! I think the trash cans evolved from plastic amoebas..."
Silly !

Evolution is in many situations probable authentic, because of the fact one element there is information helping it on the different hand The Bible has NO information what so ever, the bible is written by utilising human beings, i'm sorry to declare! to no longer point out it have been given TRANSLATED to English reason the unique bible is in historic Hebrew or some thing like that. And in case you talk 2 languages like me, you would be attentive to ideal translation isn't attainable in any respect. hence alot of the stuff interior the bible might no longer be precise with the aid of translation. additionally you are able to point out different memories interior the bible that are Over exaggerated alongside with Noah's Arc( I propose entire international flooded is slightly ridiculous, yet greater ridiculous section is a boat donning all Ancestors of each little thing in the international on it, is extremely unlikely because of the variety.) case in point the bible states all animals have been created on a undeniable day. which potential because of the fact that no EVOLUTION occured , Noah might had to have taken 2 of each Species of animals and flowers in the international (alot of species of timber) and merely about all those had to in positive condition on ONE boat.

a) Why can't atheists/agnostics wake up to the fact that religion is not stupid and it has become distorted under the work of man?
We woke up to that a long time ago
b) Besides, most of them haven't even touched a Bible in their life.
I think you'd be surprised - most atheists I know have a better command of the Bible's content than do Christians.
It DOES make a difference. How will future generations (my son's, e.g.) fight deadly diseases and viruses if they have a fairytale education in biology?

Try not to generalize about people, please.
SOME people believe.......
I am aware of everything that you say.
Keep in mind that SOME people DO take everything in the Bible literally. That is their right.
You might also keep in mind that MANY atheists have indeed "touched a Bible." They have actually read it.

Hi, Lady Solitaire:
The issue is much more important than you imagine. If we evolved from mollusks, then Adam didn't exist, and the original sin didn't exist, and we don't need a Savior to save us from the sins that didn't exist.
The Bible says Adam was our first ruler, and 1 Cor. 15 says Jesus is the "last Adam" and as such, He will rule this planet in Adam's place. Yes, the plan of salvation is not to just get you an eternity in Heaven, but to save this fallen celestial globe. We'll "inherit the earth."
Evolution is Satan's brain child, and according to a satanic high priest, those who teach it are his special ministers. See: www.revelado.org/cult.htm
There is a site that opens the only part of the Bible that says you can't understand it until the end of the days. It identifies the complete plan to save us. See: http://abiblecode.tripod.com
Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua
For Bruce (behind my response), I have never met a Catholic who has read the Bible cover to cover, and if they did, they's leave the church for sure--they don't match. See http://abiblecode.tripod.com to be oriented to primitive faith.

Your question has too many points to be answered here.
1 by 1 your points of view ( entertaining as they are, could be put to bed with logic and fact.)
Feel free to post it in a multi part question. I'll even add you as a contact if you like, just so I can see the question as a sum of its whole parts.
