Im not doing it for the money but if I would still be more than happy to get some extra cash. I am in the DEP for the USMC and already went to meps and go to boot June 1st 08. I completely forgot to ask for a signing bonus and was wondering if I could still get one? What would be the best way to ask my recruiter? My friend has the same recruiter and just got a $10,000 signing bonus. By the way my MOS will be aviation mechanics.

You have to be enlisting in an MOS that carries this option, one where there is a big need. It's probably too late now, but your best bet is to just ask your recruiter. It would be interesting to know the MOS that your friend signed-up for.

What is your friends MOS? We gotta know that to really answer correctly....signing bonuses are paid only for hard to fill jobs, and to people who possess skills the Marines really need to fill. You can ask about a signing bonus but I don't think they pay one for your MOS. Tell the recruiter that your friend got a bonus - does your MOS offer one. BTW you are not obligated to anything until you take the oath. Congrats for considering the Marines.

Anyone who joins the military for the money and education and training is in my corner... $10G is a lot for shipping over and if it were mine I certainly would ship over... The military is a career and a job and are to get all of the financial gain out of the Marines. .Just like out here in the civilian jobs... If Dad gets bonus they will give hime the check as promised... If your entitled to a sign on bonus they will make good on the check--OK Don't be silly and spend the $10G on Las Vegas show girls and gambling--OK

Im wondering...If its not for the money, why are you askin'?
You are joining the Marines...Be a man and look the recruiter in the eyes and ask your question!!! There will probly be a bonus for you. Marines with a MOS in electronics, all the repair trades ect are offered bonuses. Remember you are a grunt first! Good luck recruit and enjoy the ride!

You seem to be interested in the money.
If you specialize in aviation mechanics you will have a hard time finding work when you get out.
