Stayed there a couple of years ago for a weekend. I think that you need a bit of a sense of humour. If you are not expecting much, it is fine. Was upgraded to a front bedroom (not 4 poster). Beautiful views and a lovely setting. Room was huge, but only had one electric point. Staff friendly.
Discovered the L Ron Hubbard machines in the downstairs lounge area. If you are a scientologist - the perfect retreat. You can be regressed apparently. The artwork was a little strange. Ted Stourton 'Outsells Picasso' apparently (or he did when I stayed there!). I think the owners have great belief in themselves.
When all is said and done - it is a friendly hotel in a beautiful spot. It may have been upgraded since I was there, but even so, the rooms are fine. An interesting place to spend a weekend. Tintagel Castle is in view and very interesting, and all the other sights of Cornwall are not too far away. A good base.

They didn't try to convert me to scientology, but I could have bought one of the paintings for £1000000 if I had wanted!

If you let them have your email address, you get poetry from John Mappin.

Stay - it sounds wierd, but it is honestly fine!
