Just found out I need to go from OKC to Miami 2 wks from yesterday. Since I'm not getting to buy tickets very far in advance, they are all very expensive! Is it likely they will go down again or just keep getting more expensive? Are there any ways to get fees or taxes reduced to make it a little cheaper? I've checked all the regular travel websites plus the airlines' individual websites. I'm also looking at flying into Ft. Lauderdale instead of Miami or flying out of Tulsa instead of OKC if either option is cheaper. I'm on a very strict budget, so any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm afraid the fares are unlikely to go down as you get closer. Airlines specify how many seats they will sell in each discount category, and once they have sold, that's it.

Standby might be an option, but only if you have some flexibility about arriving. If you have to be there at a specific time, this might not suit you either.

Taxes are unlikely to be varied. As government charges, airlines have no say in the matter. Some taxes may be based on the amount of the fare, but you will find that most are flat rate amounts that cannot be varied.

Travel agents will generally be able to tell you how many seats are left on particular flights for each discount category, but not how fast they are selling. If there are a few still in the cheapest category, you might have more time to do some shopping around. Otherwise, you might need to book quickly before they are all taken.

Hey there! I've been to both Tulsa, OK (TUL) and Oklahoma City, OK (OKC) airports, and both have about the same or exactly the same prices. Low fare airlines include Champion Air, Southwest Airlines (SWA), and also xJet Airlines, which just began service in May. Also, Continental Express (ExpressJet Airlines) also begins service to Cleveland for even more flights into Tulsa and Oklahoma City in a few months!

Well me start off by telling you not to buy then off a site like Orbitz or Priceline because they may look cheap but they tack on 50 bucks. Second always fly into the larger airport because it will be cheaper. And Thrid now as fast as you can go to southwest they have a great deal on flying out of OKC to Ft. Lauderdale. That is the best you will get. Have Good flight.

Miami is a tourist destination, and you will be traveling on a Thursday or Friday, so that helps. Try looking for "last minute deals" Yahoo or one of the other sites. It is not air only. It's air + car or air + hotel, or both. It's one way to get cheap airfare without advance purchase, but you have to return on a Monday or Tuesday, I think.

It is a possiblility that they could decrease it just depends on the type of seats they still have available. My sister bought some tickets on overstock.com in a short time frame for my mom and sister for not that much money. You should try overstock, you might find something. Just go to their travel section.

Keep trying the way you are now: some good bidding deal will come, as it does now and then! You cannot predict others' cancellations, so you cannot really predict the good deals all the time! You have to keep trying! good luck!

You should probably check priceline.com or hotwire.com in that case.
