Good question. You've been given some reasonable answers. Here's a couple questions for you:
Why do they have a "no dogs allowed" sign on the door at the post office?
Who's that for? The blind man with the dog, or the dog? Neither can read anyway.
Or, when people drop their mail into the postal box... why do they re-open the slot to see if the mail actually went down?
Ah.... mysteries of the universe, Cover Girl, mysteries of the universe. By the way, I like your profile. Good on ya, mate.

To keep their ears warm. I have also heard it said that the helmets had a heavy layer of fur inside and the pilot was suppose to strap the helmet on tightly so that he could not hear himself scream while diving onto an enemy ship.

What the hell is a 'kamakase'?
Wait, did you mean 'kamikaze'?
kami(cah-mee)=spirit
kaze(cah-zay)=wind
kamikaze=wind spirit
There, now you can ask this dumbass question without looking like such a dumbass.
And the answer is, they did not wear a 'crash' helmet, merely a standard pilot's cloth helmet which was merely a piece of flight gear and not safety equipment.

I'm not buying it that they did. They did wear something that was part of their flight apparel, but I don't believe you could refer to it as a crash helmet.

They werent exactly what you would consider crash helmets. They were made out of fabric not plastic so were not really intended to avoid head injury.They were part of their uniform.

Their job was to crash their plane into the enemy target.
Passing out due to a head injury due to all the flack and the violent movement in the cockpit will prevent that.
