while we are on holiday in thailand, also are they cheaper than uk,.

I'm not so sure about painkillers, but antibiotics are readily given over the counter, IF you state a reason why you need them.
The pharmacists there sort of acts as a doctor for non emergency type things, like sprains, cuts, and colds, etc.
In my experience while living in Phuket, there's nothing they think that either Ampicillin or Xanax won't cure, so good luck!
All of it is way cheap.

would it not be better to get a perscription from your doctor over here and take them with you ( if it looks like you are going to use them) then if you have to bring any back with you through customs you will have an official perscription documented and you wont be stopped

just a thought. went to thailand in january and because i take 11 drugs a day took them in a plastic bag with my perscription and also a letter from my doctor to say what they were

its better to be prepared than take any chances through customs

You can get them, especially in Bangkok. And they are cheaper than in UK.
