Paganism. Christianity began 2000 years ago. Paganism is a variety of unorganized rustic ways that go back as far as the beginnings of mankind.

Paganism was around first since people believed in other things way before christianity came about some 2000 years ago. But the word paganism came after christianity because to an early christian any unbeliever of God was a pagan

I hope this isnt a History homework in disguise cos judging from this and your other question you are SOOO going to fail World History unless you start some heavy duty reading!

What religions do you think people practised before monotheism developed?

Why do you think pagans were described as polytheistic?

Use logic.

Since Christianity started in the first century AD of course paganism predates Christianity!

It depends what kind of "Paganism."

You see Christianity is a single, specific religion.

"Pagan" is an umbrella term that refers to any number of very different religions similar only in that they are typically polytheistic and have deities of an at least somewhat pantheistic nature.

For instance, Christianity is about 1900 years older than Wicca (invented by Gerald Gardner.) But about two thousand years younger than the Egyptian religion.

Paganism predates Christianity inasmuch as Christianity did not exist until the first century of our common era.

Of course, true worship predates both Christianity and paganism.

Why does it matter? And to the previous answer , "no commonalities!?!??" It is people with your narrow-minded religious views that have precipitated all the religion-based bloodshed this world has ever seen! ALL religion is a construct of human minds to try to quantify and control spiritual powers beyond most human conception and comprehension.

However, if we could stop focusing on the differences between each other's chosen path, and instead try to see the commonalities, we would find that the world is a much kinder, more understanding place to live.

Paganism in it's original form came first by far. However since Christianity did such a good job at prosecution for several centuries, a lot of practices have been lost.
A lot of what you see now is paganistic reconstructionism, but it has roots in far older traditions than Christianity.
