He is afraid you not accept his family and background. He is afraid you will leave him once you find out. He may have had a few ex's that left him once they met his family and found out about his background. For example, I didn't go to college and guys who did go to college are turned off by it. Also my brother is happy living in a filthy house with his wife that is 20 years older than him and has 4 step children that are on wellfare, drugs or jail. It's by marrige and I don't tell the guy I am dating about it right off the bat because I am nothing like my brother and I don't see him much, but I love him to pieces. I don't expect the guy to be his buddy, but it is something he will have to deal with on occasion should we get serious.

Because he doesnt want you to think less of him just because he has done some bad things in the past or his family has been in some kind of trouble, he does love you and he keeps it from you because he doesnt want to lose you (i did the same thing with my love, but over time i eventually told her everything, so just be patient)

Maybe you've only known him five minutes and he's not close enough to you yet to feel secure enough to share his past with you. Or maybe he's married. He wouldn't want you to know that would he.
