Fish oil cholesterol is just cholesterol, so it is bad if you eat too much of it. There probably isn't much cholesterol in fish oil anyway, it's about 1%.
But the other stuff in fish oil is what might be good for you: Plenty of unsaturated fat. It breaks down much easier than saturated fat and decreases inflammation in your fat tissues.
The problem with fish oil (besides the taste and smell) is that it often contains many pollutants, such as mercury.
So go ahead, and eat your fish-oil, but I would use it INSTEAD of other oils, not IN ADDITION TO your other oils.

Fish oil is outstanding for cholesterol!

My favorite medical resource for this is run by a cardiologist. It's called "The Heart Scan Blog" and it's at:
http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/

I take 4000 mg per day. I've tried cod liver oil, salmon oil, and other oils, all ranging in price. I don't take it for cholesterol although it has certainly improved those numbers. I have an active stroke condition and can tell right away if I'm getting enough anticoagulation.

Just unprofessionally speaking, but even based on the chart where they show the difference in fish oils, I really like the Trilogy SeaLogix fish oil the best.

fish oil contains omega -3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which support brain function, heart health, mood, skin, and joint function. also, some research suggests that these fatty acids may reduce coronary heart disease. As long as you are taking *only the recommended daily use, it is perfectly safe. There are no known negative side effects. It won't necessarily help you lose weight, but will help improve over all health in your daily life. It is a good natural source, and I take it daily myself

American Heart Association Recommendation:

Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart of healthy people, and those at high risk of — or who have — cardiovascular disease.

We recommend eating fish (particularly fatty fish) at least two times a week. Fish is a good source of protein and doesn’t have the high saturated fat that fatty meat products do. Fatty fish like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna and salmon are high in two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

The ways that omega-3 fatty acids reduce CVD risk are still being studied. However, research has shown that they: decrease risk of arrhythmias, which can lead to sudden cardiac death, decrease triglyceride levels, decrease growth rate of atherosclerotic plaque, lower blood pressure (slightly)
