from people of like mind. All we get from believers is condescending rubbish and bizarre bible quotes. I for one am here for anyone who has recently thrown off (or begun to throw off - it can be a struggle) the chains of belief.

I never said I wanted to turn atheism into a belief. it's just that some people who are having doubts about religion should be encouraged to contact others about the big step they are taking.

Vivi -- I am an Atheist but not an isolationist Atheist. I know that people have a need to 'herd' , we really do need each other. And we do get joy from lending a helping hand.

The big trouble with American Christians today is that they have taken the concept of 'self reliant' a bit too far. For the most part people do not isolate themselves and expect everyone to fight for themselves. People that think in this manner are a little off base. America is a bit off base OR - screwing the heck out of the American population.

If you live in a world, a country, a city, a family you help each other. I really wonder what your Jesus would think today about the 'money changers' who have cheated about 10% of the home owning population out of their houses, their homes and their life's savings - their lives!

What will you Christians do to change the attitude of greed in this foundering nation?

It is so simple being an atheist, you have only one belief to defend and that is that you don't believe in a god. The rest of your theology you make up yourself, you don't have to justify it because it is all self-created.
This makes it very easy to attack other peoples beliefs because you have nothing of your own to defend......however I have heard it said that the majority of atheists do in fact pray to God in the hospital waiting room or when a loved is dying. It is very easy to be laid back and self confident when all is well but in times of need and desperation when no one is there you guys don't rely on the ether around you or the dark matter....or do you ?

Hi Bob, I don't need support, as I am LAMB

Lethargic, Atheists, Mental and British...

But seriously, faith is a matter of personal belief, I would never try force somebody away from their declared faith, I only get mad when they try to inflict hypocritical practises on me, then I bite! Live and let live Bob. I come here to relax, and like to discuss religion, but the interpretation is a personal choice. I think it is what separates us from the fundies, we don't ram our lack of faith down peoples throats.

I will quote the bible (lil Drummer boy) to point out the absurd contradictions within it - because it is sometimes the only 'reference' (sic) book that many fundies will have read, or claimed to have read - in thier lives.

I actually think that the minority on here is the moderate liberal believers who are prepared to question and challenge their beliefs and don't seriously think that the world was created in 7 days and so on. The response to some of the questions here shows that there are a lot of fundamentalists who have just decided that the bible is inerrant and are therefore unable to grapple with the difficult issues which are there if they are brave enough to think about it

I will support the ideas of people but we can not let atheism turn into a belief. It isn't one. I am an atheist=someone who knows there is no gods or god. But we are not a religion.

I am not a religious person, but it is good to have from psychological point of view. It creates obedient civilised sheep and help you with psychological problems.
Where will we be with anarchy?
Also I am not an atheist for I know that God is. And I am proud to be part of Him like my cat and that mountain and this planet...
That´s it, I´m off for a beer.

Looking across the pond to the Fundamentalist states of America, (which is what it is becoming under Shrub and his fellow god botherers) we Atheists do need to stand up and be counted! Their increasingly desperate need to push their obsolete beliefs upon the rest of the world is starting to look really scary! Seperate the believers in the "big beard in the sky" from the people who are in touch with reality and fight to keep religion out of our schools and public offices.

I look forward to the day when the last priest repents!

Don't come around much, Bob?

The Atheists at R&S are disproportionately represented, to say the least. If you want to lend your support, I'm sure you'll find many of like mind.

Hope you enjoy the drinks...

Hmmmm, I don't know how to answer this question. Maybe it would have helped if you'd...you know....asked a question.

And for the defense of the believers, the typical atheist response is "Jeses iz ghey lol"! They're as big of lunatics as the religious. You've basically got the moral elitist believers, and the intellectually elitist atheists. Both are tiresome if you ask me.
