humans suffering? hmmm...let's see --holocaust happened- didn't help the poor jews and other folks. hitler dies an easy death--suicide. No justice there.

darfur--poor folks suffering there--genocide---all the horrible things you could imagine...probably still going on--god helps? no.

and there are so many other instances like these. so why should I worship this god? This question is for you preachers out there. This is why I am an atheist. Now don't ask me again.

adnan: so the problem that god is indifferent is unresolvable? interesting. talk about impotent.

jantoo: I've read this stupid story way too many times. And I'd actually like to report you for pasting it AGAIN. But anyway, hun, it doesn't prove anything. The only thing you could deduce from that crap is that humans are inherently evil...which by the way, we aren't. There are a lot of nice atheists out there...absence of god in their lives doesn't mean that they'll be evil.

RIFF: this has nothing to do with man's responsibility. I am just saying god could make this suffering go away but it chooses not to. Do you have any idea how many people must have prayed for the suffering in darfur to end? It doesn't work!

BrotherMichael: All I am saying is god could have alleivated their suffering. Yet he didn't. Why?

2007-09-21 18:49:27 · update #5

phantom: I just read part of that crap. And posted a question about it. If you believe that junk, you're completely messed up. Have you bothered to read or understand what the heck it's saying?

2007-09-21 18:55:43 · update #6

RIFF: you have blocked me. I don't know how I'm supposed to contact you. But anyway I don't care about hitler getting his punishment or whatever. I am talking about the jews etc. They suffered so much. If someone put your family in an oven and burnt them to death and went and committed suicide----then you come and tell me that you're sure the person who did it is going to hell and of course whatever burning and unimaginable pain your family went through----they are being rewarded for sticking through it, in heaven. Go meet a holocaust survivior and then come and tell me that.

For djmantx

So, basically, the God of Creation, the Almighty, is only interest in our souls. The body is for suffering and the more we suffer the more we deserve the reward of eternal life as souls?

Why cure ourselves when we are infected by a disease? Why try to have justice when those who are oppressed, the poor, the sick are the lucky ones to get to Heaven first? If genocide occurs, rejoice! If torture is inflicted, rejoice! It's only the flesh that is being violated. The soul is set free!

I have always detested the cult of suffering. Perhaps because I believe it is a sadistic and masochistic mental illness.

Peoples’ pain and suffering should not be taken as punishment. Good, Bad and the evil people suffer too. Jesus Christ suffered too, and was crucified while his mother witnessed. No, more than anything it is an opportunity. It is our chance to maintain strong faith and trust in the Almighty God through the worst that this random world of pain can throw at us, making God Almighty very proud that we are amongst his believers. To Almighty God, our troubles here are like an instant.
It is true that God can reward us in a million ways.
I wish I could tell you that prayer would change God's mind and take away your suffering. But prayer is just to increase our faith in his existence.
God wants us to face the challenges of this universe and come through them with faith intact, which we will do only with the help of prayer. Our eternal happiness is all that is important to God, and all that is important to us. So right now, on earth, prayer is absolutely essential. Don't ever give up on it.

These are the testing times; rewards are forthcoming from the creator of
Universe.

For the same reason God permits people to be atheists. Nobody is truly innocent ... and all have sinned and fallen short.

Your assumption is that God does nothing in all these cases, which is false ... because you have no way of knowing such a thing.

Man's inhumanity to man is an old and ingrained fault, and it's not likely to disappear any time soon.

In the mean time the Christian practice of "loving God and loving your neighbor" would indeed resolve the issue ... if everyone would simply do what God asks of them.

And no matter, for in the end, all are judged according to the same standard ... and THAT's where the justice is.

I'm an atheist for that reason too! Even if GOd existed I would choose not to worship such a mean and evil God. Not to mention his ways of sending people to heaven and hell is so messed up! It's easy to be good when you have nothing to be bad about. If you are in a country with a corrupt government and the people don't have their basic needs, they have to kill each other for resources to survive. Technically they would go to hell for that. But someone who never killed anyone because they had no reason to would go to heaven. Talk about the rich getting richer and the poor being damned. It's not fair!
Edit: jaantoo1: That theory of evil has been going around for years! I thought of that when I was 6 years old and learned that cold is the absense of heat. But I also thought God was supposed to be everywhere. He seems to be missing from a lot of places in the world. Don't you think? besides I don't have God in my life, and I am not evil! There goes that theory. hahaha!

Either he is responsible for everything or nothing.

It makes more sense for people who believe in god to accept that he does not interfere in human affairs. Otherwise people would have to accept that he does not care about them.
I think it is appalling when someone says it was through the miracle of god that they did something and yet 6 million people were killed in the holocaust. Where was god then? If some are blessed then clearly very clearly some are not. I refuse to believe in that.

I think this is what christ was talking about when he said you are the light of the world and salt of the earth. We are the hands of G-d. If you want to see justice, we must make it happen. We are the hands of G-D, the body of christ.God was in the defeat of hitler in ww2 . He is in the marine captain who went to darfur and spread the word. As It has been said before "all that is needed for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing." you want justice? take action, rescue the opressed. That is how I plan to spend my life.

(when Riddick was coming back to rescue the castaways from the predators after Riddick said "wheres your God now?" in pitch black. the cleric replies seeing riddick rescue them "there's my God Mr. Riddick!"

We live in a fallen, broken, sinful world. God never promised to remove suffering and pain, but for the believer, He goes through it with us. If you want maybe a different perspective on the holocaust, I suggest reading "The Hiding Place" By Corrie Tenboom. Don't worry, Hitler will face the eternal, just and righteous judge, and pay for eternity.
You seemed to have forgotten the Christians who suffered torture and death for their faith throughout history, yet remained in the faith, never renouncing it. Know about Paul? Suffered whippings, beatings, left for dead, shipwrecked, imprisoned and ultimately beheaded, yet you see nothing but joy and faith in his letters.
The question is, what are you doing to alleviate someone else's suffering?
You do not believe because you have not been given the faith to believe, you are incapable of believing.

Does man and his responsibility ever figure into this? I am quite capable of handling small matters in terms of preventing someone else's being harmed. But on a global scale, what could I alone possibly do? I'd have to detonate a nuclear device high up in the atmosphere just to get enough people's attention.

Wait........wouldn't that...?

U wanna know why?Cause for real for real he only dealt.and still only deals with a particular people..Thats why folks are so mad and dont wanna believe and yada yada yada..If u not one of his chosen,or if u dont want to do his ways and follow his commands, despite what U want, then he dont deal with u point blank. If u dont know him,,or seek him,the real him, then he dont know u.If u seek him in truth the truth will be revealed to u.And folks think thats so mean, and vicious and blah blah blah..but u know what? He didnt create this world for nobody, but his own pleasures,if u dont like his ways he does not care.U worship him cause he says so and if u read the OT he tells u exactly the way.Just cause u dont like it and dont think this or that is fair, well too bad.U need to find out who he is or be content in being one of the lost souls, cause u hate him and refuse to obey his ways, thats just how it is..Some cant handle the truth,Shalom
