There are over 120 different kinds of HPV and only about 30 of those kinds are sexually transmitted. HPV is a DIRECT skin to skin contact disease. That is why even with condom use the virus can still be spread. The condom only covers a man's penis and not his entire genital area. So, just the rubbing back and forth of the genital areas during sex or foreplay is enough to spread HPV.

There are basically two main types of HPV - sexually transmitted kinds and non-sexually transmitted kinds.

Sexually transmitted kinds of HPV are responsible for genital warts, cervical cancer, and a few other RARE cancers like penile and anal cancer. These kinds of HPV are considered sexually transmitted and are usually spread by sex or any kind of DIRECT skin to skin contact with the infected area.

Non-sexually transmitted kinds of HPV can cause warts on the hands, feet, elbows, knees, etc. These kinds of HPV can be spread by any DIRECT skin to skin contact with the infected area. These kinds of HPV are not considered sexual.

Hi there,

I was recently diagnosed with HPV. I'm a man that just turned 40 . I have had extensive talks with my doctor and read many articles and bottom line is it is a STD. And condoms can greatly reduce the chance for safer sex. But it is the vaginal fluid or mens semen that can spread the viris so skin contact to those can spread it as well.
Genital warts are one of the very few ways you might ever know you have the virus, and it can be dormant in your system for years and years before you exhibit any signs .

Having a test for is for a woman is the best way when you get a yearly exam, but there is currently no test for men to detect it.
I hope i was some help.

Genital warts are hyperplastic, sometimes pedunculated lesions of the skin or mucous membranes of the genitals caused by human papillomaviruses (HPVs). Some HPV types cause flat endocervical or anal lesions that are precancerous. Diagnosis is clinical. Multiple treatments exist, but few are highly effective. Genital warts may resolve without treatment in immunocompetent patients but may persist and spread in patients with decreased cell-mediated immunity (eg, HIV infection).
HPVs associated with the development of "common warts" are transmitted environmentally or by casual skin-to-skin contact.
A group of about 30-40 HPVs is typically transmitted through sexual contact and infect the anogenital region. Some sexually transmitted HPVs, such as types 6 and 11, can cause genital warts. However, most HPV types that infect the genitals tend not to cause noticeable symptoms.
Persistent infection with a subset of about 13 so-called "high-risk" sexually transmitted HPVs, including types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, and 68 — different from the ones that cause warts — can lead to the development of cervical dyskaryosis, or precancerous lesions. In women, this may lead to cancer of the cervix. In men, such infection may lead to anal or penile cancer. HPV infection is a necessary factor in the development of nearly all cases of cervical cancer.

Its transmitted by secretion like:semen ,vaginal fluids, etc. So even when you use a condom you could get infected. The best advise is to not have sex, or if you do test yourself and your partner against STD's.
Its not that its asymptomatic its just there are several HPV viruses and some of them don't create papilomas and some do, the most dangerous ones are the ones that don't show lessions. And women don't show any sings of it cause the lesions are in the cervix.

It is primarily spread through sex, but in very rare cases can be passed along to a baby during vaginal delivery. Below is the link for the CDC web page on HPV.

HPV IS a sexually transmitted disease, and yes, you MUST be careful with ANY partner that you have sex with, especially with this new research, because it's apparently a-symptomatic on the male, and the male is the carrier for it.

I am assuming that you are asking about HIV and not hpv
Hiv can be transmitted by unprotected sex, infected injection needles(old or reused or not sterilized). for better information contact a doctor near you, don't hesitate, this is a very serious issue.
Be safe.
