That one generation ago everyone agreed that we could destroy the world anytime with the nuclear weapons we had then. We'dd poisoned numerous rivers, streams and lakes to the point nothing lived in them. One river actually caught fire spontaneously. Military folks seeded the clouds over the Ho Chi Minh trail and made it rain like the devil. The air wasn't fit to breathe in any city in the US. Now suddenly we are being told we have no influence at all. We can burn all the forests, poison all the water, and kill every other living thing, yet the earth will just go right on and nothing will change. We're told it's normal to do these things, everything is controlled by "natural cycles" and there can be no consequences. We don't need the opinion of people in any other country, the opinion of some of the Americans takes priority over all other people in all other countries and most Americans. What the heck happened? How could things have changed that much in such a short time?

No, Jesbud, a single volcano cannot. 1000 cannot unless they erupt for thousands of years. It actually happened once-the Permian extinction. Killed everything too.

That's right Ron. Hudson Bay and Chesapeake Bay were almost sterilizied by the pollution. The fact things are better today results from the work that was done, and the laws that were passed to correct the situation. Had we continued as we were, we would have a different reality today.

Camp I think what the outcome will be with Global Warming will depend on whether we do anything about it, just like the other things we've both mentioned. It's the most serious threat to our species since the nuclear arms race. It distressed me to say we can't affect things, after seeing how much we affected things in these other cases. And as I say, ALL IN ONE GENERATION!.

Jello, Jello, Jello. You have outdone even yourself! Someone told you a generation ago that the human race was going to evolve because of pollution, and you know they're wrong because it's a generation later and we haven't evolved. Ah! I see!

This is very true, and it is about time someone said it. THANK YOU!!!
Because if we couldn't effect and/or change the environment in which we live, then humanity (and in some cases life in general) we would have never lasted as long as we have.

No. A generation ago we were told by experts that humans would evolve because of the pollution. We were told by experts that we would never be able to remove these toxins from the planet. Places like Lake Eire and the Hudson River were dead of all life.
Not only were they wrong, but we are no longer polluting as we were in the past (co2 is not pollution). The toxins are gone, Lake Erie and the Hudson are abundant with life and you can fish from them again. And humanity has not evolved at all in the last 50 years.
The "experts" were wrong then. They're wrong now.
And just because people don't believe the dogma that man is the cause of all evil, doesn't mean that we're "pro-pollution".

It is fascinating to see that the majority of people are in denial and don't believe in global warming.
People needs big numbers to take notice. But that won't happen. It only takes 2 or 3 degrees to have a climate change.
It is not just one thing. It is an hundred things which have a domino effect when the first one falls. And the first one is C02. And you cannot control or get ride of C02. Not unless you stop producing it... And you cannot reduce the production of C02 as long as the world population keeps increasing.
But there is no point worrying about it. We are already 30 years too late to fix it.

i think you are on the right idea, how is it that a generation ago that we were told that we poisoned the great lakes so bad that they would be dead for thousands of years, we were over planting our fields and the crops were going to fail and mass starvation because no good top soil. we were cutting down to many of our forest and they would never have a chance to grow back and we would all die in the ice age that was upon us.
now, fishing in the great lakes, crops coming with bigger yields per acre then ever before, many states have more woodlands then 200 years ago, and now humans are causing global warming. if it's hot global warming, if it's cold global warming, if it storms global warming, if it is calm global warming. now why would anyone have the never to think some scientist (and do not fool yourself, they all do not agree one way or the other) are full of sh*t.
and no i do not care what somebody in some village thinks. they do not understand TV or the airplane that flies overhead. why would they have an opinion on whether we are killing the planet??? they do not even know what we are doing.

Ho told you this?
Try to pea on your toilet and wait for month before flushing it and let us see if it can clean it self? We have many heavy particles that is not floating and this remain in a level where people and bird breed the only thing that give life to us is by the fresh air of the tornado so if this tornado thing stop, so just think what i told you of urine in the toilet?

What happened is that we fixed all those problems and the people who just can't live without worrying about some big problem have found the biggest problem they could find and blown it up way out of all proportion. And when that one is solved, they will find an even less serious problem and worry about that. On and on forever.
Global warming in not a serious problem. It may be artificial but the RESULTS of it will be no different than past natural warm periods. All the past natural warm periods were good for life, not bad.

Outstanding post!
But to answer--the scientists are saying exactly what you are. The people--the "deniers"--are those who have tried to make the science into politics--a venue where opinions, and not facts--are the rule.
It won't work, of course. politicizing scinence woh't change a single fact. All it does is protect the oil companies and othe rspecial interests.
