Italy, France and Asian cultures have been cooking for hundreds or thousands of years to develop their foods and preparations.
California Cuisine owes much to more traditional styles, is very healthy and involves more reduction sauces and less to cream, butter and olive oil.
Cajun or Creole does owe some or much to the French.
Pan-Asian and the new Nomadic cuisine owes homage to the Orient as well as California.
How about Texas or Southern Barbecue?
Let alone Cal-Mexican!
And WE have only been around for a few hundred years. We are not yet a finished product.
I hope!

No no. Hamburger was NOT absolutely invented here. That honor goes to Germany.

Many things do come from here, though. Potatoes and tomatoes and a variety of berries and turkeys and other stuff.

Dishes include what in fry bread and potato chips (oddly enough, Indian, sort of) and other Indian food. Bourbon is actually American, too. What is called succotash is American. I bet I'm missing some!!

We are a melting pot. There is no uniquely American food!
What we do have are the influences of all the different cultures and nationalities (and their food) that we can enjoy!
I have had deep South collards and fat back in New York City. I have had Southwest cuisine in South Caroline, I have had Texas style beef BBQ in Minnesota and I have had sushi and kimchi and couscous everywhere in the U.S. It is what makes us great, the variety... the combining of flavors and cultures. Gotta love it!!
