I've read an article saying three girls have died from it, and that you can become a quadrapolegic.

I think it is more dangerous to NOT get it. The percentage of HPV or cervical cancer is very high for any woman during her sexually active years. It may take half a life time for this to appear on your cervix, but, once it does the chances of curing it or having it removed totally from your body are very slim. Once a girl from 8 to 24 has had the series of injections, she is protected against 17 or the most strongest strands of the virus. Medicine is constantly exploring and bringing on newer and better vaccines.
There is no real danger to having the injections. There are side effects, such as pain or swelling at the injection site, sometimes fever or a reaction to the medication. Those are very slim as well.
I advise any woman who is EVER going to have any form of sex to have these injections. If I were younger, I would. Having HPV is very serious. The surgery to remove abnormal cells is painful and heart breaking if you get another positive pap, after going through all the surgery's.
Do your research, check out Guardasil.com. Make an informed decision.
That is all you can do for yourself. Think about it this way.
Cervical cancer is alot more dangerous than the injection.

I did a article on this topic in my schools newspaper actually. I found that it only pretects the three main types of CC(cervical cancer) They are the main occuring ones. IT doesnt protect them all so don't think you will be entirly free from pap smears. Although it is a new vaccine, so long term effects havent been tested. It is a risky move but it may be worth it in the long run. some of the side affects are pain swelling and fever but those are minor. I personally will wate untill later studies have been done on the long term side effects of it before i go all williy nilliy and get it but thats just me for now a regular visit to the Gynocologist is what i find pretects me the best.

Guardisil protects against several types of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus).

The types of HVP it protect against are those which cause genital warts.

In some cases these types of HPV will lead to cervical cancer.

It is believed that if you don't get HPV you won't get cervical cancer.

At the moment, about 75% of sexually active adults get HPV.

It is important to get the vaccination BEFORE you become sexually active.

If you are confidant you will not become sexually active in the next few years, it is possibly a good idea to wait for more research into possible side effects before getting the vaccination.

If you plan to become sexually active in the next few years, then get the vaccination now.. Your chances of a bad reaction are probably a lot lower than the risk of gettin g Cervical Cancer without the vaccination.
